Principal's Message
The second week of the challenge is complete! Please see the team display case showing the first week leaders below. Team Empathy is leading for accuracy and the building is currently sitting at 85% participation. The team board tracking progress will be updated every Monday. Progress will be communicated in next week's newsletter! We have also added a behavior challenge for lunch and recess! Teams can earn PBIS reward points weekly for meeting the expectations during lunch and recess. Teams that earn the highest points in lunch (clean up , behavior, etc.) will earn the golden plate trophy (shown below) for the week. Bragging rights! :)
How is the "Are you ready for i-Ready" challenge going to work?
The challenge will incorporate a building and team goal. Goal number one is the building goal. The building goal is for the building to have an average of 90% participation from our students in completing their required i-ready lessons per week. If the building reaches the 90% participation goal all students will have a movie day with PJs! They will also receive 20 PBIS reward points to spend on incentives and prizes from the school store. The second goal will be a friendly competition between the teams. The team with the highest percentage average of lessons passed at the end of the challenge will win a treat to go along with the movie and an additional 20 PBIS reward points. This goal is not based on the amount of lessons passed. It is based on the quality and the highest score of the lessons passed per team. Last year we did a total amount of lessons passed and we felt students were spending way too much time on i-Ready. This year we want to focus on the accuracy of their answers and not rushing to finish. We want our students to get something from i-Ready. i-Ready is like all things in life, you get out of i-Ready what you put into it. This goal focuses on the accuracy of the students' lessons.
How can you help?
Throughout the challenge we will be sending weekly messages with information about i-Ready and resources that can help your student at home be successful. This is a great time to talk with your student and see how i-Ready is going. Make goals together based on your student’s typical and stretch growth projections. It could provide you and your student a chance to have some fun with the challenge by creating goals and challenges at home. But the most important thing we all can do is encourage our students to keep trying and persevere even when the work is challenging. This is when learning really takes place. Below you will find some resources for i-Ready.

Panorama Survey Coming Soon (Opt out forms attached below)
We thank you and your family for being our partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Pickerington Local School District values input from our community, and we need to hear from your child(ren). Their voices are important as we work to improve the overall school experience for students and their families.
We would like your child’s feedback via a 20-30 minute online survey that they will be completing at school. The survey will provide us with social and emotional learning (SEL) information. SEL is the process through which children and adults apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. These are the skill sets that promote success in life.
Please notify us if you do not want your child to participate in the survey by February 27. To opt-out, you may return the completed form or email your child’s School Counselor.

Immunization Requirements for Students Entering Grade 7
Per the Ohio Department of Health, all students entering grade 7 must show proof of vaccination against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap vaccine) and meningococcal disease (MCV4 vaccine). You may take this letter with you to your doctor to use as documentation of these vaccinations, or you may submit an immunization report with the dates of both vaccinations. Please return this documentation as soon as possible to your child’s school nurse. If this is not provided during the grade 6 school year, you will need to send this information to the junior high that your child will attend prior to the beginning of the next school year. The middle school nurses will forward all immunization documentation received to the junior high nurses at the end of this year. Your student will not be able to start school until documentation of the required vaccines or a signed exemption form are on file.
