The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Family Update
Sunday, January 21st
Dear CES Families and Friends,
Winter certainly reared it's ugly head this week! Unfortunately, due to the frigid temperatures we were forced to hold indoor recess a few times. That being said, we do our best to get the students outdoors as much as possible. Please make sure your student(s) are dressed for the outdoors. We highly recommend coats, hats, mittens/gloves, tights or leggings to cover bare legs under dresses/skirts, and proper footwear during colder temperatures and inclement weather. Have your student stop by our Lost & Found if any of their cold-weather clothing has gone missing or contact Nurse Jaime if you are in need of warm clothing and footwear.
I know when the weather is particularly cold I find myself looking forward to warmer days. Please make sure to mark your calendars for the following all-school events. They are a few months away, but time passes quickly and you won't want to miss any of them!
- Friday, May 10th - CES Arts Festival
- Wednesday, May 22nd - CES Fun Run
- Tuesday, June 4th - CES Field Day
Have a great week!
Kindly yours,
Dr. Kelly

Deadline Monday
CES is THRILLED to share that 87% of all students joined a club last session. We are working hard to offer a variety of courses for all grade levels. We appreciate your patience and flexibility when first choice sessions are filled. Again, we are trying to make sure that every student gets their first choice at least once a year.

CES March Madness Book Challenge
In celebration of Read Across America Day (March 2) and our LOVE of reading, the students and staff of CES will be reading a selection of 16 books representing the different regions and people of the United States of America. What makes this reading challenge even more special is that the books are read aloud and recorded by the amazing faculty and staff at Chatham Elementary School.
For the next eight weeks, two new books will be uploaded to our school's YouTube page every week. Students will have the opportunity to watch/read the book in their classroom. The following week during their library classes students will vote on which of the two books was their favorite. The winning book from each match-up will move on to the Great Eight (Round 2) that begins the week of March 18th. The Final Showdown will take place during the week of April 1st with the ultimate winner being crowned at our SHARK Assembly on Wednesday, April 3rd.
This week's match up is a great one between My Papi Has a Motorcycle by Isabel Quintero and The Lost Package by Richard Ho. You can view the book videos read by Ms. Deb and Mrs. Laub by clicking on the hyperlinks. Hard copies of all of the books are also available in our library for students to check out and take home.
We hope you enjoy these amazing books and will follow along to see which book wins the honor of CES Book of the Year!
