It's almost time for school to start on Wednesday, August 14th, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome each and every one of you back! We've been working hard to prepare for an amazing year ahead, full of new opportunities, growth, and community.

As we begin this exciting new school year, I wanted to remind everyone that Shoemaker High School is a cell phone-free campus between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. This means that all student devices, including smartwatches and earbuds, must be put away during these hours.

Our goal with this policy is to create a learning environment that is free from distractions and fully focused on student engagement. We believe that by minimizing these interruptions, we can help our students stay focused on their academic goals, better engage with their teachers and peers, and ultimately achieve greater success both in high school and beyond.

We understand that you may have concerns about your student being without their phone during the school day. Please rest assured that our campus is equipped with phones throughout the building, which students can access if they need to contact you. Additionally, we take the safety and well-being of our students very seriously, and we will always notify families promptly in the event of an emergency.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy at home and ensuring that your student understands the importance of being fully present during the school day. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to the district at phonefreeschools@killeenisd.org.

Welcome back from summer! We are very excited to see you in just a few short days. Please remember:

• Submit your student's shot records this week to avoid delays on the first day of school.
• If you've moved over the summer or are new to KISD, please make sure you turn in your proof of residency. These forms can be dropped off to our registrars or uploaded at time of registration.

• Doors open for students 8:00 AM.
• Students should report directly to their first period class and will be given their schedules in first period.
• First period classes will be posted in the 1100 hallway, the cafeteria hallway, the 2100 hallway, the 1300 hallway and the 2300 hallway.
• Schedules will be posted in Home Access Center.
• Students arriving after 9:41 AM should report to the auditorium for their schedules.
• Career Center AM or Career Center All Day student, their schedules will be available for pickup in the cafeteria. Please have these students at school early as the buses for the Career Center will be leaving from the front of the school at 8:25 AM. The bus for the Career Center PM students will leave Shoemaker at 12:32 PM. They will eat lunch at the Career Center.
• CTC AM and Fire Fighter Academy students will check in with attendance each period and remain in the cafeteria.

Remember, Shoemaker is a closed campus and a cell phone free campus this year. Students will not be allowed to have their phones or personal electronic devices out during the school day.

If you start the school year and notice an error in your schedule (Example: You're a freshman with Algebra I on your schedule but you took and passed Algebra I in 8th grade), please go to the counselor's office to put in a schedule change request. If you have a "hole" in your schedule (Example: You don't have a 4th period), go to the auditorium during the period you are not enrolled in the class (Example: 4th period).

IMPORTANT: Schedule change requests are to fix errors, not changing your mind about what class you want to take. You should have verified your course requests in May. Per communication sent out in April, the campus master schedule and teacher hiring decisions were made based upon student course requests; therefore, beginning of the year schedule changes will only be considered to correct an error in a student's schedule.

• Schedule change request forms will be available outside the counselor’s office and on the stage at lunch. There is a schedule change request box outside the counselor’s office. All schedule change requests must be turned into the box by August 23rd.

The KISD Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is seeking parents volunteers to serve on this council for the 2024-2025 school year. If you are interested in volunteering, please follow this link:

SHAC Questionnaire

A SHAC is a school district-created advisory group consisting of members from different areas of the community and school district and must consist primarily of parents who the District does not employ. The work of the SHAC should reflect the values of the community and members are asked to attend 4 out of the five meetings.

In an effort to improve safety and security, a Clear Bag Procedure will be instituted beginning July 1, 2024 for spectators attending any event held within a Killeen ISD athletic facility that requires a ticket to enter.

Policies in the Student Code of Conduct, to include the Dress Code Policy, are implemented to promote student achievement through the creation of a safe and inviting environment for students and employees. Please review the dress code policy and allow it to guide the selection of your child's back to school dress. Dress Code and ID expectations begin on page 50 of the Student Code of Conduct
