Holy Week Devotions

Give us strength, we pray, to walk faithfully with Jesus,
Even when the road we walk is rocky
Even when the message of the cross seems like foolishness
And even when we feel betrayed.

You, Lord, are always faithful.
We stumble, we become lost, but you are steady and sure.

Give us the grace to endure our troubles, and reveal to us the glory of your kingdom,
Through your son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us... For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I always learn scripture better when I can put music to it. If that sounds like you, too, you can use this music video to help you remember this awesome verse about this gift of love, this sacrifice that Christ made for us - sinners who do not deserve this gift but rather deserve death - so we could have eternal life.

• Open up your family Bible or children's Bible and read this story together
• This Holy Week story about Jesus can be found in John 13:1-17

• Matthew 20:26-28 - "...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
• John 12:26 - "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me."

• Take turns answering the question: Talk about ways your family can serve God by serving others? How can you do this on your own?

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and because He is steadfast, who we are in Him remains the same regardless of circumstances. These statements remind us whose we are and who we are Because of who Jesus is.

Speak these statements together as a family.

Lord, You gave us the best example of humility and service when you took the place of a servant and washed the feet of your disciples. You gave us the only true example of unconditional love and sacrifice when you gave up your life for us on a cross. Teach us to put the needs of others before our own. Teach us to love like You. Amen
