Haverford Happenings
June 2023
Welcome Summer!
We are filled with joy and pride as we reflect on the recent celebrations within our school community. Our students, teachers, and families came together to commemorate milestones and achievements, and we are particularly thrilled for our graduates as they move on to their next journey equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values they have gained during their time with us. We have no doubts that they will make a positive impact on the world, and we look forward to seeing their future accomplishments.
As the summer begins, we want to keep you informed about the different projects and initiatives happening throughout the District. We encourage you to check our website regularly throughout July and August for updates on these developments as well as any important announcements or events.
During this summer break, we hope you take the time to relax and enjoy these months. It's a great time to find moments of fulfillment, joy, and rest. On behalf of the entire school administration and staff, we wish you an amazing summer.
Maureen Reusche, Ed.D., Superintendent
Residency Verification Requirement for those entering 6th and 9th grades.
Only students whose residency is verified will receive their schedules from the MS and HS.
The District requires each student’s residency to be verified by parents/guardians or other adults with whom the student resides before June 30, 2023.
Families can submit their verification documents through their PowerSchool parent account (PowerSchool Parent Accounts). Each student verification requires two (2) acceptable documents, as outlined in the policy, in their entirety with the address and name(s) clearly indicated.
If you encounter a problem during the process, please contact your building administrative assistant or the IT Help Desk.
To keep up their reading skills and cultivate a love for literature, we suggest that families set aside time most days for students to read during the summer. Don't forget to fill out the Summer Reading Summary Form on your grade-level page before the start of the new school year. Teachers will review responses to help students continue their growth as readers.
You can find Summer Curriculum Resources here.

Domenick Recchiuti Humanitarian Award
The Domenick Recchiuti Humanitarian Award is named for Mr. Domenick J. Recchiuti, a former Haverford parent and active community volunteer who also served as a school director, devoting much of his time to helping others. He was a familiar and welcomed presence in all seven schools and at school events. He cared deeply about the quality of education that every student received, and he spent his life serving others. This award is given to outstanding members of our school community to be recognized for their exemplary service to our schools and our township throughout the year. John D. Unangst Memorial Scholarship
Maeve Gilroy was chosen as one of the five students to receive the John D. Unangst Memorial Scholarship from the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation. Out of hundreds of applicants, Maeve stood out due to her passion for education, which was fitting since the scholarship was created in honor of the credit union's first President/CEO, John D. Unangst, who was a strong advocate for education.
During her first year at HHS, Maeve became a member of Best Buddies due to her neighbor's experience with bullying as someone with Autism. Maeve's desire to promote inclusion drove her to join the club. For all four years, she has served as a leader and Peer Buddy in Best Buddies and currently holds the position of Chapter President. Maeve's involvement in the Life Skills Class as an aide and as a peer buddy has motivated her to pursue a degree in Special Education at West Chester University in the upcoming fall semester. She is inspired to continue learning from individuals who are different from her and is committed to positively impacting the world.
