Rocket Update September 23rd
Week 8 ๐
I want to continue to thank those of you who are following our drop off and pick up procedures every day. Next week I will be sharing a change we will be making to our morning drop off procedure. This change will take place AFTER Fall Break. We feel as though this adjustment will increase the safety for students and will make for a more organized process in the mornings. We also hope it will eventually lead to a faster drop off procedure for all.
Please remember when exiting drop off and pick up to please make sure you are turning right in the right lane and left in the left lane. We have had some near accidents because parents are turning in the wrong direction. I also want to continue to remind you, that you cannot drop off on Rose Lane street. You must either drop off in the drop off lane or park at Madison Christian and walk your kiddo over. Thank you so much for your support with this.
In the next section I will be providing our first RULER RECAP. RULER is the social and emotional learning curriculum that we use at Rose Lane. RULER stands for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions. Throughout the year I will be sharing some of the different techniques and strategies that your kiddos are learning in order to accomplish this.
We are only two weeks away from our Fall Break and all I can say is thank you for this wonderful 1st quarter of the school year. Please continue to make sure your child is on time and at school each day. Our attendance is improving school wide and every day counts! Let's have another great week!
Your Rose Lane Principal,
Andre Reyes, M.Ed.
RULER RECAP ๐
Since the last week of August our Rockets have been working on Mindfulnessโฆ
This is taken from our definition slide for Mindfulness...
"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." ~Viktor E. Frankl
Mindfulness is the process of training our attention to actively notice what is happening both inside and outside of our body, right now in this moment. We learn mindfulness through a series of easy to follow exercises where we notice thoughts, feelings, emotions, and senses. This helps us create a self-understanding that nurtures good self-regulation skills; supporting us in navigating lifeโs challenges and stressors.
Mindfulness does not eliminate the challenges our kids face; instead, it helps create space between the challenge and their ability to choose a response that will be acceptable.
In order for our students to become successful with using mindfulness in their everyday life, we have explored breathing techniques, discussing the differences between taking a Meta Moment response instead of a โFlight, Fight, or Freezeโ response as well as creating a safe place for our bodies to feel safe so we are able to calm down.
Attached is a video shared in our classrooms about mindfulness

In our next Bulletin I will share a second tier of Mindfulness, which is โSelf Regulationโ.
