Rock Ledge Intermediate Center
April 2024
A Note From Mrs. McKeefry
As we dive into the blossoming month of April, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and commitment to our school community. Together, we continue to cultivate an environment where every child can thrive and grow. We want to remind you that Forward Testing continues this month. Please ensure that your child is well-rested, nourished, and ready to showcase their knowledge and skills during these assessments. This is a critical time for our students, as these assessments not only gauge their academic progress but also provide valuable insights into their strengths and areas for growth.
As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting wellness and healthy habits among our students, we kindly request that you support this initiative by sending your child to school with wholesome snacks such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, or yogurt. Encouraging nutritious choices not only fuels the body but also enhances concentration and overall academic performance. Together, let's foster a culture of wellness and vitality within our school community.

Rock Ledge Penny War!
Let the Penny War begin! Starting April 8th - April 12th bring in your pennies and other change to compete with the other grade levels at the Intermediate Center. Here's how it works:
There will be 3 jars in the office: One for each grade 3, 4, 5.
Students collect spare change and will bring their change to school to put in the jar for their grade.
Pennies are worth a positive amount for your grade.
If you bring in silver coins or paper dollars, those will be put in the jar of a different grade.
The amount of paper dollars or silver coins will subtract that amount from the other grade’s jar.
One grade level in the Intermediate Center will be the Penny War Winner and receive a reward!!
The money raised from this year’s Penny War will be used for student activities and events.
Bellin Run
Grades 3-5 will be participating in the 5K Bellin run this year as a school group. This program consists of training after school in April and May to participate in the 5K (3.1 miles) on June 8th. The registration form for signing up as been included below. Please note that transportation to the Bellin Run and after training runs is the family's responsibility. If you are in need of financial assistance to register for the Bellin Run or equip your child with appropriate running gear, please reach out to me as soon as possible.
We are also looking for parent volunteers to assist throughout the training: running with the students, setting up water stations, providing snacks for after the runs, and doing the check-in/check-out of students. I will send a sign up form to register for these volunteer opportunities but if you are willing to run or walk with the students, please contact me, my contact information is on the Bellin Run Parent Letter.
More information about the training runs will be sent before the first training run but please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Drop off / Pick Up Safety Reminders
Drop off Reminders - Please make sure your child does not arrive at Rock Ledge Intermediate until 7:45 a.m. or later. There is no supervision outside before 7:45 a.m. When the students arrive they are expected to wait patiently on the sidewalk until they are let into the building.
End of Day Reminders - If your child is a walker, your child needs to find their siblings and begin walking directly home. If your child is being picked-up your child needs to wait by their designated door so they can easily be found when their ride pulls up. Students are NOT allowed to cross into the parking lot by themselves. If you are picking up your child, you must pull up along the curb or the adult driver must walk them across the parking lot to pick up their child and walk them to their parked vehicle.
Thank you for helping keep our kids safe!
Parent Permissions Notes
Parent notes are required if a student must leave early or anytime a student does not take his/her normal route home whether a bus or a non-bus student. If we do not receive a note, the student will follow his/her normal dismissal plan. Please write a note, do not call the office. Please send a note with your child in the morning, phone calls need to be reserved for emergencies only. A reminder that only bus eligible students are allowed to ride a bus.
National School Librarian Day
National School Librarian Day is observed on April 4. The day is observed to recognize the professionals who keep school libraries well-stocked and the books in perfect order. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized. They are also likely to be the first people to help students find the resources they need to learn. They also encourage students to pursue reading outside of academic texts. School librarians are also responsible for creating an environment where students are motivated to learn. Here at the Intermediate Center we would like to send out a huge thank you to Mrs. Monfort and Mrs. Erickson for making out library such a great place to learn and visit.
Paraprofessionals Appreciation Day
Paraprofessional Appreciation Day is a special day dedicated to those who work in a classroom under a teacher’s direction. A paraprofessional is someone who works under a professional’s guidance to help them in their job. These fantastic people deliver support to students who may need extra help and work to maintain the classroom, keeping it running smoothly. Paraprofessionals are the unsung heroes of the education system. Paraprofessional Appreciation Day seeks to bring these professionals to the forefront and show them a little extra love for all the incredible work they do, day in and day out.
