Principal Notes
Dear Ashley families,
Again, thank you for continuing to help us improve communications, safety, and order here at Ashley; checking out in the afternoon has gotten a lot smoother and less hectic as we continue not checking out any student without a two hour notice - again, that means no checkouts online after 1pm and that will now include phone calls. If you need to check your child out between 1 and 3pm, then please make a personal visit to the attendance desk to escort your child off campus. As always no checkouts after 3pm.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause; however, we have to manage and maintain order and safety with our nearly 2,000 students. Your patience and support is always appreciated. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact our attendance desk or email Ms. Williams: lynda.williams@nhcs.net
I want to give a shout-out to two specific staff members who have been AMAZING this year. Congratulations on becoming the finalists for the County-wide Assistant Principal of the year, Ms. Michelle Kornegay and a finalist for the County-wide Teacher of the Year, Ms. Amanda Penegar. We here at Ashley are lucky to have these two as well as all of our other hard-working staff members-- Thank you for all that you do. This week is our very own Teacher Appreciation Week, so, if you are so inclined, please help us celebrate and recognize your own child's teachers this week!
In other news, prom was a wonderful Egyptian-themed success -- thank you to all the wonderful staff, parents, and students that attended and/or helped with this major event! This is such a wonderful community to be apart of and it shows by the way students conducted themselves this past weekend.
As we enter the final month of the school year, I want to thank you for your continued support and partnership. This is a crucial time for students to stay focused, finish strong, and take pride in all they've accomplished. Please encourage your student to stay organized, attend all classes, and reach out for help if needed. Together, we can help them cross the finish line with confidence and success!
Warmest Regards,
Wings Up, Go Eagles!

Attendance Matters
ATTENDANCE MATTERS AND HAS A MAJOR IMPACT ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.
CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF CREDIT FOR COURSES.
PLEASE REVIEW THE NHCS BOARD POLICY 4400 REGARDING ATTENDANCE.
ADDITIONALLY, NCHSAA REGULATIONS STATE THAT STUDENTS WILL BE INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES IF THEY MISS MORE THAN 10 DAYS OF SCHOOL.

NC LABOR LAWS PROHIBIT EMPLOYERS FROM SCHEDULING STUDENTS TO WORK DURING SCHOOL HOURS. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE CHECKED OUT EARLY FOR WORK.
Per New Hanover County Schools and Ashley High School policy, students may not leave campus during the day, including FLEX and lunch times, unless they attend CFCC, have a modified schedule, or are withdrawn by a parent. Ashley High School is not an open campus. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.
Please call or email our attendance clerk (lynda.williams@nhcs.net) if you need to verify attendance or provide written absence verification documentation.
Students who are in violation of the attendance policy, having accrued more than 10 unexcused absences, will be required to fill out an attendance review form. Once the review form is received and approved, grades /credits will be awarded. If the review form is not completed or is denied, additional steps will need to be taken to achieve course credit. If this is the case, one of our School Social Workers will be in touch with Students and Parents/guardians.
Semester 2 is filled with many extracurricular opportunities for students, such as prom. Students must be in good standing to participate in these privileges, to include attendance (less than 10 unexcused absences), academics (passing a minimum of 2 classes), behavior (no suspensions), and financial obligations (none).
Don't be Late!
Student Check-outs
Please complete the Google Student Check Out form at least 2 hours in advance of the release time/picking your student up from school. Otherwise, it will be necessary for a parent to come into the school for pick-up as staff are not able to respond to the numerous requests. And no checking out after 3pm
Parking Lot / Student Pick up
Please be mindful of all our student drivers, walkers, bike riders, etc. - especially leaving at 3:40. Parent pick up should not be in the front parking lot or bus circle! This is for our our student, staff, and families' safety. Abiding by this policy is much appreciated.
