Dear Families,

May your hearts be warmed by the joy and laughter of togetherness during this Holiday break! From my family here at school and at home, we wish you a wonderful and restful break! We are ready for a new year of success and great things to come!

Thank you to all your generous spirits as we continue to collect coats -thanks to Beta Club - for the homeless in our area and the needy in the North Carolina mountains. Keep those coats coming in after the holidays!

• Families of AHS Seniors: SECU will be on campus January 14th and 16th to help you complete FAFSA. All seniors intending to take post-secondary coursework in the 2025-2026 school year are strongly encouraged to submit a FAFSA application. It makes you eligible for federal, state, and institutional grants, loans, and scholarships. All students who submit their FAFSA no later than March 1 will be entered into our FAFSA Raffle. Prizes include Prom tickets, extra Graduation tickets, Amazon gifts cards, and college swag. • Many spring CFCC classes begin the week of 1/6/25; please read the email sent out by Mrs. Craven regarding attendance, conflicts and expectations

• The schedule change form for spring semester will be open starting 1/6/25. At that time, students need to use the form to request changes and should not make appointments. A QR code will be sent out to staff for printing/posting, and it will be in Student Services as well.

The ACT WorkKeys test will be administered on Wednesday, December 11 to all eligible 12th grade students. If your student is eligible, they have already been notified by email. Reminders for testers are: Bring your school laptop fully charged along with your charger. You will also need a photo ID. Please arrive at school by 8:15. *More info is on the AHS website under "Testing"

Graduation is scheduled for June 7 at 9am in the Ashley High School Stadium.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS AND HAS A MAJOR IMPACT ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.

CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF CREDIT FOR COURSES.

PLEASE REVIEW THE NHCS BOARD POLICY 4400 REGARDING ATTENDANCE.

ADDITIONALLY, NCHSAA REGULATIONS STATE THAT STUDENTS WILL BE INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES IF THEY MISS MORE THAN 10 DAYS OF SCHOOL.

NC LABOR LAWS PROHIBIT EMPLOYERS FROM SCHEDULING STUDENTS TO WORK DURING SCHOOL HOURS. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE CHECKED OUT EARLY FOR WORK.

Per New Hanover County Schools and Ashley High School policy, students may not leave campus during the day, including FLEX and lunch times, unless they attend CFCC, have a modified schedule, or are withdrawn by a parent. Ashley High School is not an open campus. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.

Please call or email our attendance clerk (lynda.williams@nhcs.net) if you need to verify attendance or provide written absence verification documentation.

Classes begin promptly at 8:30 am daily. Please encourage students to be on time by being in class by 8:30 am. All of our school buses typically arrive by 8:25 am so the school bus is a great option to ensure timely arrival. Additionally, if a bus is late the tardy is excused.

Ashley High School will be bringing a new CFCC pathway to Ashley this Spring, Aviation Ground School - Pilot. The first course, Aviation Fundamentals will be offered 1st block in the Spring on our campus. Please see Mrs. Pridgen in office 704 with any questions or to apply.

Next school year, Ashley High School will continue the electrical pre-apprenticeship program on our campus. Please see Mrs. Pridgen in office 704 with any questions.
