Eagle Updates

Principal's Corner
Dear Ashley High School Families,
Greetings to our Screaming Eagles Crew and Happy Valentine's Week! Lots of great things happening in and around our school and we want everyone to be apart of it. We had an amazing Special Olympics fundraiser complete with a Polar Plunge Dunking Booth this past Friday (below are a couple of pictures- it was FUN!) and this coming week we'll have the Student Government Association selling Flower-grams during lunches (or scan the QR code flyer below to send your own!)
Don't forget we have a teacher workday the day after Super Bowl Sunday (I love watching all those ads during the game!) and this coming Friday is Valentine's Day. Please do NOT have items delivered to school that day; we understand we want students to feel special, but with about 2,000 people in our building the office can't have the additional stress. Thank you for understanding.
As a reminder, course registration for the upcoming school year has begun. This is a crucial time for students to explore their academic options and select courses that align with their goals and interests. We encourage families to discuss these choices together and reach out to school counselors with any questions. (there are a few links below from our Student Services)
Also, consistent attendance is key to student success. We want to remind all families that students cannot be checked out after 3:00 PM and our attendance desk needs to have at least a two-hour notice if you are sending in a written request. This policy helps maintain classroom instruction and ensures the safety of all students during the busy dismissal period. If your child needs to leave early, please make arrangements before this time.
Our focus on keeping those cell phones put away in classrooms is working thanks to your support! To maintain focus and engagement in the classroom, students are expected to keep cell phones put away during instructional time. Teachers will reinforce this policy to minimize distractions and promote a productive learning environment. If a teacher reaches out to you with the need for help, we thank you for discussing this policy as a family. We appreciate your support in reminding students of this expectation. And please see our website for the grade level meeting information shared with students to assist them with policy compliance and keys to success!
Thank you for working with us to support student success. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Wings Up, Go Eagles!

Attendance Matters
ATTENDANCE MATTERS AND HAS A MAJOR IMPACT ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.
CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF CREDIT FOR COURSES.
PLEASE REVIEW THE NHCS BOARD POLICY 4400 REGARDING ATTENDANCE.
ADDITIONALLY, NCHSAA REGULATIONS STATE THAT STUDENTS WILL BE INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES IF THEY MISS MORE THAN 10 DAYS OF SCHOOL.

NC LABOR LAWS PROHIBIT EMPLOYERS FROM SCHEDULING STUDENTS TO WORK DURING SCHOOL HOURS. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE CHECKED OUT EARLY FOR WORK.
Per New Hanover County Schools and Ashley High School policy, students may not leave campus during the day, including FLEX and lunch times, unless they attend CFCC, have a modified schedule, or are withdrawn by a parent. Ashley High School is not an open campus. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.
Please call or email our attendance clerk (lynda.williams@nhcs.net) if you need to verify attendance or provide written absence verification documentation.
Students who are in violation of the attendance policy, having accrued more than 10 unexcused absences, will be required to fill out an attendance review form. Once the review form is received and approved, grades /credits will be awarded. If the review form is not completed or is denied, additional steps will need to be taken to achieve course credit. If this is the case, one of our School Social Workers will be in touch with Students and Parents/guardians.
