Eagle Updates

Principal Notes
Dear Ashley families,
Spring Sports are among us! Congrats our baseball team- Ashley is now 4-0 and heads into conference play on Tuesday with a home JV/V double-header against the Topsail Pirates. We hope their star power keeps rising! As the weather gets nicer, I hope to see you all out at the fields for not only baseball, but softball and lacrosse! Congrats also to the hard work of our Track, Tennis, and men's golf teams-- and of course to all the AMAZING soccer teams we have at Ashley as they travel and play during this season!
Prom Season is upon us! Students will have an opportunity to buy their prom tickets online starting next week with our seniors first then juniors will have an opportunity to join in the week after. As a reminder all fees and fines that are due must be paid prior to being allowed to even purchase a ticket. Students must also be in good standing, behaviorally and with their academics, and not have more than 10 unexcused absences in order to participate. We want to have a great prom season, but this is paramount to the prom process. No tickets will be sold after April 11th this year.
Coming later next week and beyond, we have ACT testing for Juniors. The ACT test will be given March 19th and will take up our entire day - we'll have more news on that later. The 2025 Graduation Cap and Gowns will be delivered to school and available for student pick up on March 28th between 9am and 2pm in our cafeteria.
Again, thanks for your continued support of our students, staff, and culture of Ashley High School.
Wings Up, Go Eagles!

Student Check-outs
Please complete the Google Student Check Out form at least 2 hours in advance of the release time/picking your student up from school. Otherwise, it will be necessary for a parent to come into the school for pick-up as staff are not able to respond to the numerous requests. And no checking out after 3pm
The Prom
The Prom this year is themed "Night on the Nile" and it will be the BEST PARTY OF THE YEAR! Make sure your dues are paid to the front office, library, and the cafeteria!
As soon as the application is approved, students will receive an email with the link to buy their ticket. Students use their ID numbers to purchase and just make sure they input their name and the name of their guests on their tickets. Tickets must match student IDs when checking into the prom.
Please allow up to 72 hours once the application is in, but usually the turn around can be much quicker.
As long as your application is in and fees are paid by the end of the school day on the Friday before the new ticket tier begins, you will be able to purchase tickets for THAT week's price. If NOT, your tickets will be subject to go UP to the next tier.
Go to the prom page on the Ashley website for more information on ticket pricing and guidelines for this year's prom.
The French are coming!
The Ashley High School French partnership with Strasbourg Amities USA is happening again this year beginning April 5, 2024. If you can host, it is an AMAZING cultural student exchange program that will add so much to your school and family experience! Students stay only two weeks (April 5- April 20th) and will adapt to your family. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEAK FRENCH (they are here to learn!) See the flyer below for more info or email paige.kylehaney@nhcs.net or soumia.paull@nhcs.net if you are interested in hosting!

Attendance Matters
ATTENDANCE MATTERS AND HAS A MAJOR IMPACT ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.
CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF CREDIT FOR COURSES.
PLEASE REVIEW THE NHCS BOARD POLICY 4400 REGARDING ATTENDANCE.
ADDITIONALLY, NCHSAA REGULATIONS STATE THAT STUDENTS WILL BE INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES IF THEY MISS MORE THAN 10 DAYS OF SCHOOL.

NC LABOR LAWS PROHIBIT EMPLOYERS FROM SCHEDULING STUDENTS TO WORK DURING SCHOOL HOURS. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE CHECKED OUT EARLY FOR WORK.
Per New Hanover County Schools and Ashley High School policy, students may not leave campus during the day, including FLEX and lunch times, unless they attend CFCC, have a modified schedule, or are withdrawn by a parent. Ashley High School is not an open campus. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.
Please call or email our attendance clerk (lynda.williams@nhcs.net) if you need to verify attendance or provide written absence verification documentation.
Students who are in violation of the attendance policy, having accrued more than 10 unexcused absences, will be required to fill out an attendance review form. Once the review form is received and approved, grades /credits will be awarded. If the review form is not completed or is denied, additional steps will need to be taken to achieve course credit. If this is the case, one of our School Social Workers will be in touch with Students and Parents/guardians.
Don't be Late!
