Principal's Message
Lumberjacks,
We have had an amazing start to the 2024-2025 school year. Events kicked off this year on Tuesday, September 3rd, with our Freshman Orientation program. This orientation program is designed to ease the difficult transition from 8th to 9th grade. Numerous studies have shown that the transition from middle school to high school is actually more difficult for students than high school to college. It is with this knowledge that we redesigned our Freshman Orientation two years ago to better meet the needs of our new Lumberjack Family members. This event provides for a single day when only incoming students are present in the building, meet and greet with the students' current teachers, a building wide tour lead by our Lumberjack Leaders, a presentation outlining expectations and providing a roadmap for success at NTHS, a hotdog cookout, and each student receiving an NTHS “swag” bag.
It's hard to believe but this week is also the mid-point of the 1st marking period. The 5-week progress reporting window closes on Friday, October 4th. Please reach out to your child’s teachers and/or school counselors with any issues or concerns.
As we move into October, we know that T/NT week (10/21-10/25) is quickly approaching. T/NT Week is an awesome packed week filled with Spirit Week, Lumberfest, T/NT pep assembly, beloved car parade, football game at NT, and the homecoming dance (10-26 from 7-10PM). Many of our students will remember each of their four T/NT weeks for years to come.
This school year, the New York State Department of Education, has mandated that school buildings communicate with families prior to emergency drills being conducted. Each week that a drill is planned, NTHS families have and will continue to receive a message from me to make you aware.
Appreciatively yours,
Bradley W. Rowles

NTCSD ThoughtExchange
Dear North Tonawanda Families,
We just launched a new ThoughtExchange on October 1, and we’d love to hear your feedback! This community check-in runs through October 11, and your input will help us celebrate our successes and identify areas for improvement.
Question: What do you think our schools are doing well, and what can we focus on to improve?
Your responses are confidential, and you can also rate the thoughts of others. Please click on the following Smore link to participate in our ThoughtExchange: https://secure.smore.com/n/u6c3s

School Attendance Program
This school year, the NTCSD is partnering with EveryDay Labs to enhance our student attendance program K-12 and provide additional communication contacts with our families. District and building level administration have been meeting with surrounding districts who currently use this system and EveryDay Lab staff members to build and implement an attendance program that better meets the needs of our students and their families. This program will kickoff on Monday, October 7, 2024 with a text nudge. Our first mail based attendance letters will be mailed home beginning on Friday, October 18, 2024.

NTHS Student Council
Student council ran the Bills Huddle For Hunger food drive during the first two weeks of school to kick off the year. NTHS collected over 400 items to donate to families in the Buffalo area. On September 17th, a few student council members brought our items to Highmark Stadium, where they met some of the Buffalo Bills players and representatives from Feed More New York. It was such a great experience, and we can't wait to participate again next year!

2024-2025 Foreign Exchange Students
For many years, NTHS has been willing and able to work with foreign exchange programs to offer student from around the globe an opportunity to live in our amazing city and attend our school. This school year is no different. I would like to introduce the NTHS Community to our three Exchange Students.

Mr. Gauld's Economics Class Project
Economics students plot “life sized living graphs” for the production possibilities frontier of common consumer products. Utilizing the LMC and the balcony students can see exactly how to plot a graph and compare all the possible outcomes of production. The activity allows students to become part of the process and gain confidence in their ability to create a graphic representation of economic principles.
