PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
November is one of my favorite months of the year where the temperature is finally where it is cool in the morning and beautiful during the day. The fall colors are in full swing and the time of year that is focused on family, gratitude, and caring is upon us. We have much to be grateful for here at Wilson Middle School. We have a wonderful and caring staff who are doing whatever it takes to make sure that your student’s academic and social/emotional needs are taken care of on a daily basis. We are grateful every day for the opportunity to work with all of them and we know your students are in good hands. We are thankful for the support of families and the community who are continually working to make our building a great place for students. And finally, we have incredible students, who challenge themselves every day as well as challenge us to become better people.
We want to invite you to become more connected to Wilson Middle School. Our website, https://wilson.aasd.k12.wi.us/ has contact information as well as information that you can use to help plan your year. We try to keep it up to date as well with our Newsletters and important information throughout the year. We are on Facebook as well, https://www.facebook.com/WilsonRaidersMS, and we post regular updates and happenings at Wilson Middle School. Like us on Facebook and let your friends know about us, too! As always, our doors are always open if you would like to stop in!

ACADEMIC HIGH HONORS
7th Grade Wellness Screener
Our school district will once again partner with Samaritan’s Wellness Screen Program to provide FREE and confidential mental wellness screening to students in 7, 9, & 11 grade levels throughout the 2023-2024 school year. Annual mental wellness check-ups are as important as annual physical check-ups and are a critical part of academic success. Early identification of mental health concerns allows for early intervention and higher success rates in resolving concerns. Wilson/Magellan will begin this screener on NOVEMBER 28 and will go through JANUARY 16.
As a reminder, you received notification of screening during the first couple weeks of school through Infinite Campus. For more information, please contact Amy D’ Addario, the Program Manager of the Wellness Screen program, at adaddario@samaritanfoxvalley.com, or visit our website https://samaritan-counseling.com/wellness-screen/.

STUDENT PANORAMA SURVEY
The Appleton Area School District values input from our community – and we need to hear from your student! Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program, and overall experience for everyone.
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via an online survey they will be completing at school on November 2 and 3. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on Effort in the classroom, Learning Strategies, Self-control, Social Awareness and Social Perspectives.
If you have any questions about the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
ATTENDANCE EDUCATION LESSONS
In collaboration with the Appleton Police Department and Outagamie County Youth and Family Services, AASD middle schools will be providing Attendance Education Lessons for students and their families beginning in November. Families may receive a letter as determined by the school site’s attendance team once their student reaches five unexcused absences. A student is considered habitually truant if they are absent from school without an excuse for part or all of five or more days on which school is held during a semester. With the letter, the family will be asked to attend a meeting with the school to develop a plan for attendance. Part of that plan will include a requirement for the student and family to participate in an Attendance Education Lesson, which will be held at each middle school monthly. Information will be shared and discussed regarding attendance requirements, state law, school obligations, the importance of attending school, and available resources to improve attendance.
iREADY
Students are encouraged to work on iReady lessons outside of school. As a staff, we are utilizing the data to assist in planning for our daily instruction to focus on the areas of greatest needs for our students. Please connect with your student's Raider Time teacher if you would like updates on your student's progress.
Fall iReady Scores will be sent home on Monday, November 6th.
If your student is out of school for any reason, they can be working on their iReady lessons.

Raider Community Supporters
RCS is the Wilson/Magellan version of a PTA and includes Wilson/Magellan parents and guardians, teachers, and administration. This year we have the goal of also including community businesses.
Here are some reasons to join RCS:
- Continue your engagement in your child's education as they move to middle school. It's needed now more than ever!
- Get connected by meeting other parents/guardians.
- It's a great way to keep informed about what is going on at Wilson/Magellan and share your input.
- Share your talents, skills, and hobbies to help make the Wilson/Magellan community even stronger for your child and all the children in the community.
Please email Deb Moreland (morelanddebra@aasd.k12.wi.us) with your questions.
