A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
We hope this message finds you well. We have some important updates and exciting celebrations to share with you as we approach the end of the school year.
Grade 7 Leaving Ceremony:
We are delighted to announce that the Grade 7 Leaving Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18th, 2023, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Transfer Beach amphitheater. This event marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of our students, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements with you. Further details will be shared closer to the date in regards to PAC celebration after the leaving ceremony.
Mental Health Awareness Week:
As part of our ongoing commitment to mental health and well-being, we will be observing Mental Health Awareness Week. On Wednesday, May 8th, we encourage all students and staff to wear a hat in support of this important initiative. Let's show our solidarity and raise awareness about the importance of mental health in our community.
Asian Heritage Month:
May marks Asian Heritage Month, providing us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the vibrant culture and storied history of Asian communities right here in Canada. This year, Asian Heritage Month 2024 carries the theme of "Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy." This theme highlights the significance of cherishing our heritage while embracing the possibilities of tomorrow.
Throughout this month, we will be honoring the remarkable achievements and invaluable contributions of individuals of Asian descent who have played pivotal roles in shaping Canada. From their remarkable contributions in the realms of arts, sports, and social justice. We are committed to spotlighting the voices, narratives, and triumphs of individuals of Asian heritage in Canada.
Thank you for your continued support and participation in these important events and initiatives.

Attendance
We ask parents/guardians to call the school before 9:00 am at (250) 245-3351 or email Info.LI@sd68.bc.ca to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
