Welcome To Week #9

Dear Brahma Family,

Diamond Bar High School has a rich tradition of dedicating facilities to honor influential and founding school leaders. Our stadium is named in honor of our first principal, Walt Holmes, and the Aquatic Center honors our third principal, Denis Paul.

On Wednesday November 6 at 4 p.m., we will continue this tradition by renaming the school library in honor of our second principal, Dr. Robert L. Corkrum. Dr. Corkrum is being honored for his professional contributions, organizational influence, and exemplary leadership at DBHS. An “Original Brahma,” Dr. Corkrum helped open Diamond Bar High School in 1982 as one of the first four Instructional Deans. He quickly advanced to Assistant Principal in 1983 and served as Principal from 1986 to 1998.

During Dr. Corkrum’s tenure, DBHS established the Four A's (Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Activities), creating a well-rounded environment that has contributed to the academic rigor and student success that continue today. (The fifth "A," Access was added by our fourth principal Catherine Real.)

On a personal note, Dr. Corkrum along with Instructional Dean Charles Sismondo interviewed me and recommended me for hire to teach Chemistry, Physics, and AP Physics during the 1990-91 school year. Under their supervision, I began growing into educator I am today. It is a great honor to celebrate Dr. Corkrum on November 6, and I hope you can join us for this special event.

Every month, each of our GLCs has an opportunity to recognize one student who they feel is representative of the qualities they would like all Brahmas to display. Here are the students being recognized in the month of October 2024.

Students that will be applying to University of California (UC) or California State University (CSU) are invited to attend our information session on Monday, October 7th at 5:30 in the DBHS Theater. We will have college admissions counselors from UC Irvine and CSU Fullerton coming to give insightful presentations, followed by a Q&A session.
