News & Announcements
Schedule Reminder: Spring Break
As a reminder and as shared in the school calendar, school is not in session on March 28 and 29, and April 1, 2024, for Spring Break. School will resume on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. We hope you have a relaxing break.
Congratulations to Monroe Elementary School's Jaxon Gray, a 2nd-grader whose bookmark was selected as the winning design in the Harrisburg Senators' Hit the Books reading program. His drawing edged out entries from 54 different schools and will appear on more than 20,000 bookmarks that are distributed to young readers through the program.
All-State Orchestra
Congratulations to Cumberland Valley High School senior and cellist Abigail Clifford, who recently placed first at PMEA Central Region Orchestra and earned herself a seat in the 2024 PMEA All-State Orchestra.
Abigail plans to pursue a career in Cello Performance at a Music Conservatory following graduation.
Student artists in our Cumberland Valley High School Clay Club recently held their 21st Throw-a-Thon. Ceramics artists in Ceramics 1 through Portfolio 2 classes created more than 300 pieces of art to benefit their next community service project. The recipients of these beautiful pieces of handcrafted artwork will remain a surprise until all works have been glazed and distributed. In the past, the club has donated their works to be used as food bank fundraisers, to faculty and staff as a show of support and appreciation, and more. Eagles Around the District

Top middle: With the support of her principal, Mrs. Shaddock, Ms. Walker recently served as principal for the day at Sporting Hill Elementary School. One of her many duties included making appreciation cards for our amazing staff!
Top right: Students in Mrs. Rita Donmoyer's 1st-grade class at Shaull Elementary School recently published their class book, Amazing Animals. We're excited to read the book and can't wait to see it rocket to the top of the best-sellers list. Photo courtesy Shaull Principal, Mr. Rich Tysarczyk.
Bottom left: Special thanks to our facilities and maintenance teams, who are there for us no matter the job. They make our buildings shine. They ensure our parking lots and sidewalks are safe after winter weather. They're the reason our buildings are so beautifully landscaped. They're the fixers of everything and the doers of it all. Photo of Bill Treichler, Maintenance Mechanic, who, together with his team, recently installed a GaGa Pit for students to use during Physical Education classes and recess.
Bottom middle: Ms. Kirsten Tingley’s kindergarteners at Middlesex Elementary School recently dove into their CKLA lesson on "House Builders" with gusto! They practiced communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities. Our littlest Mountain Lions were exceptional masons and carpenters.
Bottom right: Chad Pellman, Director of Special Education, was one of many staff from across the district who were spotted wearing fun, cheerful, colorful, sometimes-mismatched but always beautifully-unique socks in honor of Rock Your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, 2024.
Mountain View Middle School's select orchestra ensemble, Soaring, was recently invited to perform at the State Capitol building in celebration of Music In Our Schools Month. We're honored to share an excerpt of their performance, "Clocks," by Coldplay. Students performed under the direction of Orchestra Director Travis Pierce.
Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
While showcasing confidence and communication skills, some of our Green Ridge Elementary School Gators put the critical thinking skills of our School Board members and administrators to the test by tasking them with locating a moose on the loose as part of a hands-on, student-led project during the March 18, 2024, board meeting. Our students use their critical thinking skills daily. They are a Portrait of an Eagle. Special thanks to our Board of School Directors and members of our leadership team for actively participating in this project.

Reminder: Amendment to the 2023-2024 Instructional Calendar
Attention CV9 families only: At the Jan. 8, 2024, Board of School Directors meeting, the Board approved an amendment to the 2023-2024 school calendar, changing the scheduled spring Virtual Day for CV9 to April 23, 2024.
