Trident Leads
Term 3 Week 7 - 10th September 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora e te whanau,
Thank you all for supporting the school and ensuring that our students were back at Trident yesterday, re-engaged with their learning. It was lovely to see them all again and they clearly enjoyed catching up with their peers and their teachers. An extra bonus was being able to provide hot lunches through the Ka Ora Ka Ako programme and the students gave the butter chicken a thumbs up!
Face Masks
You may have seen in The Beacon that Trident staff are actively supporting students in wearing face masks for their safety and health in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s directive. Some of our students are bringing face masks but feel shy about wearing them; please encourage them to wear them – this is an opportunity for leadership and a way to support the general health of our school community. I want to thank our teachers and support staff for role modelling the wearing of masks – their commitment to our students is commendable.
Covid – 19 Vaccinations
Te Puna Ora o Mataatua has offered all schools in the Kahui Ako the provision of onsite vaccinations for students 12+, staff and whanau members and the Board of Trustees at trident has approved engagement with this offer. In order to go ahead with the onsite programme, we need to confirm at least thirty bookings for students, staff or whanau. Please see the email sent today and respond if you would like your student to have this opportunity or would like to come to school for your vaccination against Covid-19.
NCEA Updates
The news yesterday that all students who have had 16 days of lockdown will now be eligible for Learning Recognition Credits, was very welcome to our students. Whilst we do not gain the lower rates of credits for University Entrance or for Endorsement, our students will benefit from the Learning Recognition Credits as follows –
The Government has decided that students disrupted by 16 days of COVID-19 lockdown this
year will be eligible to receive Learning Recognition Credits (LRCs) at a rate of 1 LRC per 5
credits achieved through assessment, up to a cap of 8 LRCs at NCEA Level 1, and 6 LRCs
and Levels 2 and 3.
At a time when some of our senior students are experiencing some anxiety about their opportunities for achievement this year, it is great for them to have this boost.
Year 8 Enrollments
It has been pleasing to see how quickly our bookings for enrollment at Trident for 2022 filling up; it is always exciting to look ahead to new whanau joining our community. We will be welcoming year eight students to tour the school and meet our teachers on Wednesday 20th October with an Open Evening for whanau the same date.
Once again, thank you for supporting your students to return to school and I hope you have a peaceful weekend with whanau
Nga mihi,
Adrienne Scott-Jones

A LETTER OF THANKS FROM THE SALVATION ARMY
Thank you for your email, and more so, thank you to Trident for choosing to support the Salvation Army once again.
These are certainly unprecedented times and support such as this is what makes it possible for The Salvation Army to continue doing what we do.
These funds will be used to assist our breakfast programme which we currently run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Our breakfast programme allows for our communities more vulnerable to access a hot meal, a shower (if needed), access to social support and gives a sense of community to those who may not have family close by.
We see upwards of 20 people on these days which may increase following this lockdown. Many of those who attend are currently displaced or with no fixed abode.
Again, we are very grateful for your support and ask that you pass on our gratitude to all involved in making this happen.
Best Regards
Courtney Sawyer

SCHOOLDOCS
Our school has been working with SchoolDocs to create a website for our policies and procedures. We are excited to announce that the site is now live and available to our school community.
The school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our board of trustees has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented. We will advise you when policies are up for review and how you can take part in the review.
We invite you to visit the site at https://trident.schooldocs.co.nz (note that there's no "www."). Our username is "trident" and password "courage".
