Happy March! I hope that all of you are looking forward to a much needed Spring Break. This year has been wonderful so far, but everyone deserves a little rest and relaxation. When the kids come back, we will hit the ground running before summer. Be sure to check the calendars often for upcoming exams and events. It gets busy in spring.

Tryouts for 8th Grade will be after school on Monday, March 4th.

Tryouts for 7th Grade will be after school on Wednesday, March 6th.

Students unable to attend their date (due to the Track Meet or anything else) may attend the other date, they just need to make sure Coach Burks is aware.

Stop The Bleed is a training offered yearly for all students grades 7 and up. This training course is designed to teach people how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and ways to intervene effectively. The course covers minor bleeding, severe bleeding, and tourniquet use through a presentation followed by skills practice. Stop The Bleed training will be offered March 26th from 4:00-5:00 PM in the clinic. Any interested students should come sign up in the clinic in order to attend.

Conroe ISD is seeking community feedback for the Proclamation 2024 Instructional Materials Adoption through April 5, 2024. Community members may review materials online or they may request to view the materials in person at the Conroe ISD Textbook Warehouse. More information is located on the CISD Instructional Materials Website.

For all of our 8th graders headed to high school next year... Starting February 26th and continuing through March 7, the Grand Oaks counselors will be at York to meet with students. Here is the timeline to make changes and verify courses. We encourage students to be present on the days their class is scheduled to meet with the GOHS counselors. A picture of the schedule is below for parents to view. There will be arrangements made to catch students that are missed due to absences or other reasons.

Students will need to be ready to discuss the following:

• Understanding of JH courses that they may currently have with HS credits.
• What level of the 4 core classes they wish to take for freshman year.
• What elective choices they will need for graduation requirements or what electives they may simply be interested in for freshman year

In November, the CISD Board of Trustees adapted a new cell phone policy for all junior high schools in CISD. The policy does not change much for York, but it is important that this policy is in full effect. Students at York may have access to their phones before/after school, and at lunch only. Below is the official CISD policy:

Junior High School Cell Phone and Smartwatch Guidelines

- Cell phones and smartwatches may be used respectfully and responsibly before school and after school.

· Cell phones and smartwatches should be set on silent mode and be kept in the designated storage area during class time (e.g. backpacks, cell phone caddy, or lockers), and should not be visible during instructional time. Cell phones should not be used for reward time or free time.

· Cell phones and smartwatches should not be utilized in any area of the building during class time. This includes hallways, offices, restrooms, locker rooms etc. Cell phones and smartwatches should remain in the designated storage area when students leave the classroom during class time.

· Cell phone and smartwatch use during common times (e.g. lunches and class change) will be determined by campus administration in collaboration with the campus Foundations Team.

· Cell phones and smartwatches should not be used to capture video, audio, or images at school or on the bus.

Starting in 7-12 grade, ALL students in CISD will be required to wear an ID badge. All incoming 7th graders and new students were given ID tags on August 21-23. Almost all of our students have received their badge. If they do not have one, please click HERE to request a new ID tag. We expect all of our students to wear them everyday, starting after Labor Day. If they lose their tag, the cost is $2 and you will be billed in School Cash Online.

At the secondary level (junior high and high school), all progress reports and report cards are submitted electronically. You will receive an email when they are ready for review, and you can sign them online at Parent Access Center.

• No crop tops may be worn by boys/girls and at no time should a child's midsection be showing.
• Shorts and skirts must be as close to mid thigh as possible.
• Jeans and pants must not be sagging below the waist.
• No sleepwear or pajamas. No slippers.
• No backless, strapless, or skinny spaghetti strap tops.
• No hats, except on special dress-up days.

The website is now "live" with information regarding school clubs. We have recently added "The Writer's Society," a brand new club at York! We are also adding info about a new Golf Club, in the upcoming days. Check out all the information HERE.

• Students riding the bus will be dropped off in the back of the school. These students will then report to the cafeteria, if it is before 8:30 AM. If after 8:30 AM, they will go to first period.
• Students riding their bike may LOCK their bike in front of campus, at the bike racks.
• Car Riders- please have patience and be nice to your neighbors. Use the "zipper" approach (like at Chick Fil-A). One enters the front drive from the west side of Waterbend Cove, then the east side, and so forth and so on.
• Car Riders- we will allow "double stacking" of cars in both lanes to help more traffic flow on Waterbend Cove.
• Car Riders- follow the signage on the sidewalk and in the street. Pull all the way forward before dropping your child off from the passenger side.
• Car Riders and Walkers: Effective immediately, you may not park on Waterbend Cove to drop off your child. Please use the front car rider drive.

3:53: Walkers and bikers released

3:55: After school athletes and instrument pickup

3:57: Car riders released

3:58: Bus riders check Bus Hub for first load and head to ramp

4:00: All students gone, except rest of bus riders, head to cafeteria to wait
