Oak Grove Elementary
October 2024 edition
Message from the Principals
Dear Oak Grove Families,
The school year is in full swing!
We are off to a great start and the students are working so hard in their reading, writing, and math. As a school, we worked on the Character Traits of Kindness and Respect in September, and this month, we are working on Responsibility and Anti-Bullying.
We have a fun event coming up: our Fall Festival! Our wonderful PTO is hard at work organizing this fun-filled evening. It will be from 5-7 PM on November 1st. Entry is free and there will be lots of games and prizes for kids! We will also have a raffle for some fun Fall Baskets! If you are able and willing to volunteer to help that night, please follow these directions:
1) Click this link to see our SignUp: https://signup.com/go/mzqUrFn
2) Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.
3) Sign up! It's Easy - you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp.
We can use all the help we can get! Thank you!
We also wanted to invite you to our Site Council meeting on October 22, 2024 from 4-5 PM in the library. Ideally, the Site Council is made up of parents, caregivers, teachers, classified staff, administrators, and community members. The purpose of the Site Council is to review school wide data and information, provide feedback and allocate resources. We meet once/ quarter. At this first meeting, we will be reviewing our School Improvement Plan and getting feedback and answering any questions about it.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything at all! We are here to support you and your children!
Warmly,
Amanda and Heather

VIM
Official MSD Volunteer Application
All volunteers must complete an application and pass a background check for student safety. VIM status is valid for two years. For questions about the Official MSD Volunteer Application, becoming a VIM (Volunteer in Medford), or checking your expiration date, please call the Oak Grove office at 541-842-3830.
Student Birthdays
In order to keep things as equitable as possible for our students, we have made the decision to celebrate student birthdays monthly. Once a month, we will have a special celebration and provide a treat for all of the students who have a birthday that month. This will be in lieu of families bringing in class birthday treats and goodie bags. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with them at school, an idea would be to have lunch with them in our Commons area by the front office. Just please remember to check in when you arrive. We understand that this is disappointing for some parents, please know that our ultimate goal is providing the most productive and equitable learning environment possible for all of our students.

PUBLICITY DENIAL
Medford School District staff often take photos and videos of students during field trips, school events, sports activities, performances and during classroom instruction to share the work and accomplishments of students. Those accomplishments are shared through the district
website, social media, print publications, fliers, and brochures. The district also works with local news media to promote student work, as well as district projects and initiatives.
If you do not want your student’s image to be published, please visit your school office to fill out a Publicity Denial form. We will make every effort to protect the privacy of your students.
Please note the district cannot guarantee a student’s image will not be published if the student is photographed/videotaped in a large group or crowd setting, such as school assemblies, sports events, and public meetings.
Please contact the Communications Department at msd.communications@medford.k12.or.us with any questions.
AFTER SCHOOL CHANGE OF PLANS
Please communicate with the office and/or your student's teacher if you change plans for after school BEFORE 2:00 PM (by 12:30 on Wednesdays).
These timelines are so we can be sure your student gets notified in time.
