Welcome new 7th graders to the 2021-2022 school year! We are so excited to be a part of your journey as you transition from your elementary schools into junior high.
I am Mrs. Wray, the principal at Washington Jr. High.
I am honored to be given the opportunity to be part of such a great community that strives for excellence and continues to assist children as they grow and develop.
I am a Whitmer graduate and attended Washington Local Schools grades kindergarten through 12th. I have great pride in our school district and community and wish to do all I can to continue to help our district improve.
Family is very important to me. I have three sons, a daughter and two grandchildren. I look forward to working with the families of all the students here at Washington Junior High. The partnership between families and school is an important tool for the academic success and personal growth for all of your children.

Hello Cougar Families,
I am Ms Hall, the associate principal for Washington Junior High School. Prior to coming to WJHS, I was an English teacher at Whitmer High School for nearly 20 years. I am thrilled to be a part of the growth your student will experience over the next two years in our building.
The staff of Washington have worked diligently over the summer to provide a clean, safe environment where students will have opportunities to grow as learners. I hope you have found an opportunity to rest and prepare for a wonderful school year.

Open House
Please come visit us at Open House on Tuesday, August 17th from 2pm - 7pm. Please enter through Door #2 where you will be able to pay fees, drop off immunization records, complete returning student information through InfoSnap, purchase a school yearbook, order spirit wear, pick up student class schedules, practice using lockers, walk schedules and meet all of your teachers.
We encourage all families to attend and look forward to seeing you there!
Remember--Masks are highly recommended to be worn while indoors.
Arrival, Dismissal and Student Safety
Our school day begins at 7:40 am and ends at 2:35 pm. Students are allowed in the building starting at 7:30 am. Students wait outside of door #2 to be let in the building.
- Our student’s safety is a priority for us. There is always traffic in front of Washington Junior High, especially before and after school. The following traffic procedures must be followed:
- There is no stopping, dropping off, or picking up students in front of Washington, on Whitmer Drive.
- Students may be dropped off in the adjacent parking lot directly across from the school. Students are to cross the street in the area of the School Resource Officer.
- Students who receive a ride home must be picked up in the parking lot across from the school. Students are to cross the street in the area of the School Resource Officer.
Our hope is to provide all students and pedestrians with a safe and secure environment for everyone who uses the sidewalks and roads. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

COVID-19 Updates and Precautions
The Washington Local School Board made the decision that masks will be mandatory for students in grades K-6 and highly recommended for students in grades 7-12. More information will be shared regarding additional safety protocols. ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR A MASK ON THE BUS.
Athletic Events & Tickets
All tickets to athletic events will only be available for purchase ONLINE. You can purchase online tickets to individual events or you can purchase a Panther Pass which allows your student to attend any home matches at the junior high and high school for the entire school year! Parents, students and fans who choose to purchase on an event to event basis will pay $8 plus a processing fee each time a ticket is purchased for a varsity event and $6 plus a processing fee for each JV/freshman event or you can check out the information for a Panther Pass. Tickets WILL NOT be sold at the door for any events.

InfoSnap is a way to ensure updated information is kept for each student. Please log in to update school permissions, such as internet use and field trip permissions as well as updating emergency contact info. This will allow us to keep your student safe and get in touch with you.

Water Bottles
Students need to bring a SEE-THROUGH water bottle to school each day. Water bottle filling stations are available to refill them throughout the day. There are no water bottles for sale. Students may carry only water in their see-through bottle from class to class--other drinks, such as Gatorade, pop, etc. are only permitted during lunch. No coffee/specialty drinks are permitted in the building when entering in the morning.
Notes From the School Nurse
Healthy children are successful learners. The school nurses of WLS are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles so that students achieve success in school and develop good habits for life long health.
My name is Mrs. Kraus and I am the school nurse for Jefferson and Washington Junior Highs. I will be in the Washington office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Since Washington Junior High students are 7th graders this school year, we are required by the State of Ohio to collect proof of immunization for the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines upon entry to school. All Washington Local families were sent two letters via US mail regarding this requirement this past spring. Proof of immunization can be provided at open house or the first day of school. Per the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) and our Board policy, proof of immunization is required by the 14th day of school attendance to avoid exclusion from school.
As a reminder, it is important that the school be aware of medical conditions your son or daughter may have. This will allow us to develop health care plans to meet the needs of your child while at school. Also, students may self-carry inhalers and epinephrine autoinjectors if a Medication Administration form has been completed by both the parent/guardian and licensed prescriber. This completed form must be provided to the school. Students needing epinephrine autoinjectors are required by State law to provide the school with a back up dose of the medication if the student will be carrying the medication.
Medication Administration forms are required for any over-the-counter medications as well. The staff is unable to dispense any medication to a student without a form completed by you and the licensed prescriber. The required form can be obtained from my virtual office site listed below or the main office. For your convenience, the completed form can be returned by fax to 419-473-8340. Medications (other than inhalers and epi pens) must also be brought to the main office by a parent/guardian. Students should not transport meds to and from home.
Unfortunately, coronavirus is still present in our community. The Toledo Lucas County Health Department recently issued revised guidance for schools. The following is a guideline all schools in Lucas County are required to use when evaluating students exhibiting signs of illness at school. In order to reduce the spread of illness in school, it is important to keep children home with symptoms of illness. If you child is experiencing a new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, new loss of taste or smell, fever, chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting or diarrhea, please keep him/her home and call the attendance line at 419-473-8483.
