Grizzly Families
It has been buzzing around NHS this week. The energy in and out of the classroom is amazing. Students and staff are getting settled in and there is a ton of work going on inside the classrooms. Thank you parents for continuing to support your students as they start the new school year.
We are looking forward to sports starting tonight with our first home football game. Volleyball, Girls Soccer and Cross Country all kick off their seasons next week. There is a lot going on...come out and support our Grizzlies.

National Recognition Awards
Congratulations Christy Spencer, Cooper Ericksen, and Olivia Sears!
These three students have earned College Board National Recognition Awards. They have earned this honor because of their academic achievements in school and outstanding performance on the PSAT.
By taking the PSAT, students that have earned a 3.3 GPA or higher, and score within the top 10% of all Washington State sophomores and juniors from their award program, qualify to apply for this honor. Program areas include: identifying as African American, Hispanic American, Indigenous, first-generation, or attending high school in a rural area and small town. Newport qualifies, allowing all of our students to potentially earn this recognition. In addition to being awarded the honor of National Recognition, the students become eligible for scholarships from programs partnered with the College Board that are focused on each of these eligible groups.
Newport High School will be hosting the PSAT in October.
Freshmen Class of 28 & Mentors
Today for the 2nd half of the day our Freshmen Class of 28 were able to meet with their upperclassmen mentors. The mentors are called Mama & Papa Bears and will meet with the freshmen throughout the year to help with the transition to high school. It is a great thing to have our students pouring into the lives of our other students and the future of Newport High School...it's the Grizzly Way!
Telehealth - Daybreak
Hello Grizzlies and Family!
We have an exciting new opportunity to better support our students and families! Newport School District has partnered with Daybreak Health to offer 1:1 Teletherapy (ages 10+) at no cost to families! Our goal is to reduce barriers to accessing needed services and to partner with families in offering additional mental health support because MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!
The 1:1 Teletherapy is a 12-week virtual therapy program specifically designed for teens who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, trauma, disordered eating, self-harm, and additional challenges students may encounter. There is even a personalized matching process to be sure that each student is matched with the right therapist to best meet their needs. These sessions are virtual and can take place at school or at home, all the student needs is an internet connection and phone or tablet with a safe space to talk! The sessions are 50 minutes each and offered Monday - Saturday 8am - 8 pm. Students wanting to meet with their therapist during the school day will be provided with a space to do so. If a student has current insurance, Daybreak will bill for the session, but there will be no out of pocket cost to families. If a student is uninsured, there will be no cost to families for participating.
If you are interested in referring your student or have any questions, please reach out to one of our high school counseling team members who will be happy to assist you! Please check out the attached flyers with additional information and even the option to self-refer!
We look forward to partnering with you and supporting our students as best we can!
