Summer Programming Update: July 10
Dear staff and families,
With temperatures set to return to the low nineties and high eighties for the rest of the week, we are resuming summer programming tomorrow (Wednesday, July 10) in all learning sites. Students and staff should report to their assigned sites or bus pickup spots at the normal time.
However, heat could rise to uncomfortable levels in the afternoon hours, and families whose students are enrolled in optional afternoon enrichment activities and childcare are welcome to use their discretion about whether they prefer to pick their students up early or opt for them to remain onsite for those programs. If your afternoon plans differ from your typical arrangement and you would like to pick up your student at dismissal or would like for your student to return home on the bus, please communicate with your student’s teacher as soon as possible.
As we mentioned in our message from last week, we are taking several steps to try to keep our buildings as comfortable as possible, including opening windows when possible and running our school ventilation systems overnight.
To ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for staff and students, we will also be:
Providing ample access to water at each summer learning site. (We encourage everyone to bring reusable water bottles to their summer programs.)
Working with our summer programming partners and individual building leaders to make common-sense modifications to activities to limit the impacts of the heat on students and staff.
Current forecasts predict evening temperatures will fall into the sixties over the next several nights, which will help us keep our buildings comfortable for the remainder of the week. We expect to be able to continue with regular programming beginning Thursday, but if that changes, you will hear from us.
Sincerely,
Dan Jung, Chief Operating Officer
Joe Crelier, Director of Risk Management
