St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 3 I 3 May 2024
Good morning everyone
As we all prepare to enjoy another weekend with our families, a reminder that the Parish Community Mass is being held tomorrow night, Saturday 4th May at 6pm. This is a great opportunity for us all to be together, to pray for one another, and share a sausage and a laugh. It would be great to see everyone there.
With a spotlight on violence against women in the news, it is a good time for us all to reflect on the issue, and in particular, providing positive role modelling to our own sons and daughters. There is much research to show that if attitudes of disrespect are left unchecked in childhood, they can continue to grow into adulthood, sometimes resulting in aggressive behaviour and domestic violence.
Paying close attention to the way we speak and act in front of our sons and daughters, is really important. We all want our boys to grow up seeing us treating our partners with the same thoughtfulness, love, and respect that we too want to receive. Children seeing and hearing their parents working through problems respectfully and showing care and consideration to each other will set our kids up well for having happy, healthy relationships into adulthood.
Starting from Kindy using the Kimochi Program, our students are learning how to use our ‘Talking Voices and Faces’ when interacting with each other to cultivate an understanding of respectful relationships. In Friendology, we encourage students to use healthy strategies to resolve conflict and maintain respectful friendships. Have a chat with your children about some of the things they learnt in class!
Congratulations to our Year Three students, who celebrated the Sacrament of Penance and made their First Reconciliation on Wednesday. A special thank you to Fr G, Mrs Cosgrove, to Year 3 staff and to parents for supporting these students on their sacramental journey. Learning how to forgive, how to navigate through daily challenges and to be open and ready to reconcile with others, is such an important part of achieving positive and respectful relationships, our whole life long. The Sacraments are a special way for us to be reminded how much God loves us and wants to help and guide us in the right direction.
A reminder that next week we will hold our Mother’s Day Breakfast and Mass. We would love to see as many of our significant women there as possible. Please send any photos you have through to Katherine and fill in the attendance form so we know how much bacon and eggs to buy!
Like many of you, I am off to cheer on my daughter’s netball team and my son’s footy team – may the weather treat us kindly!

Our next St Bernadette’s parish and school community mass will be held on Saturday 4th May at 6pm. The mass is hosted by our Year 4 families and we encourage all families of all year groups to attend. The mass will be followed by a sausage sizzle provided by the school P&F and cooked by the parish men’s group. For catering purposes, please click the link to complete your attendance on the form, it will take you ten seconds to complete. We hope to see you tomorrow.
This week, we started our St Bernie’s Numero Competition. We
had 102 students sign up and compete across Year 2-6.
There will be three more rounds taking place across the
next three weeks. The winner for each year group will
be announced at Week 7 assembly.

Reducing single use plastic in lunchboxes
Reducing single-use plastic in schools isn't just about protecting the environment; it's also about setting a positive example for others and creating a healthier, more sustainable future. By cutting down on single use plastic waste in school lunchboxes, we're caring for the planet and making responsible choices by minimising our impact on the environment. Together, we can make a big difference by choosing alternatives to damaging single-use plastics such as zip lock bags, Glad Wrap, single yoghurt pots and pouches and foods in snack packets. To promote this initiative at St Bernadette’s there will be extra prize draws for those students whose lunchboxes do not contain single use plastics. The first prize is a canteen voucher for a lunch meal deal and a drink! The second prize is a reusable container for lunchboxes! Congratulations to our Eco Warrior winners from the past two weeks Jim 2R, Neave 4R, Tate 2R and Mitchell 2R.
We would love all our Mums/significant other Mother figures in our community to join us for our Mother’s Day Egg and Bacon Burger Breakfast.

Please be mindful of traffic rules in the car park. Please do not drive the wrong way down the drive way but follow the road around passed the Church to come up to the front entrance. This is in the interests of everyone's safety so your cooperation is much appreciated.
Please remember to let us know if your child is away from school. It is very important that our records are correct.
