Principal's Message
Dear Families,
It has been a wonderful week here at West Middle School! We hope you had a productive and meaningful week as well. As the season changes and the days grow cooler, we know many of our families have a lot on their plates. That is why we are especially grateful for the time you took to connect with us during conferences on Monday. Our teachers were excited to share the progress, successes, and growth of your amazing scholars!
Thank you for all you do to support your scholar's journey at West Middle. Your involvement and encouragement make all the difference in their success.
With deep appreciation,

West Students Volunteer during WIN
WMS scholars volunteered at Free Bikes 4 Kidz this past week. Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a non-profit that collects gently used bikes and donates them to students in need. Our district has partnered with this amazing program for the past 15 years. This year, 325 Hopkins students will be receiving a bike.
Our students were able to volunteer and complete a variety of tasks: moving bikes in the warehouse, cleaning bikes and prepping them for the mechanics, learning all the different ways to polish and remove rust from wheel rims, and above all, ride a few of the unique bikes in their collection. Students loved the experience and were eager to return and participate again next year.
Free Bikes 4 Kidz is always looking for more volunteers. The warehouse is located in our community, at the Dick's Sporting Goods old store in Minnetonka. Feel free to visit their website for more information: https://fb4kmn.org/
WMS Things to Know
Counselor's Corner
We are excited to share our first newsletter of the 24-25 school year. Please see the attached PDF to learn more about the importance of sleep for adolescents and how you can support healthy sleep habits for your student. If you have any follow-up questions or if you would like to suggest topics for our monthly newsletter, please reach out to us at laura.stark@hopkinsschools.org or correne.larsen@hopkinsschools.org.
myHealth Clinic at West
Asthma season is in full swing. West is a full-service community school, and a nurse practitioner comes to West on Thursdays from 9:30am -11:00am. If you haven't already, NOW is a great time to schedule an asthma preventative care visit.
Parents, please consider calling MyHealth at 952-474-3251 and make an appointment for your student to be seen at West during the school day. Appointments are available!
Request from the Science Department
Thanks to everyone who was able to connect with us at conferences - we loved the opportunity to reflect on how note booking has impacted learning so far this year, and have been appreciative of the vocal support from our families for this practice.
Students have been so engaged with keeping up their notebooks and adding color, picture, and text to each page. BUT with the success of notebooking, our supplies are running out! If you are willing and able to contribute, please check out this amazon wish list to help resupply our classrooms.
Play for All - Tshirts/Sweatshirts
Our new non-profit, Minnesota Play for All, has their first official t-shirt/sweatshirt order ready to go. Logo and color selections have been selected by YOU and the students at West.
All items will be delivered to the Hopkins school/site of your choice. Thank you for all your support over these past two years and helping us share our mission.
Orders will be accepted through November 20th. Deliveries to school sites will be the week of December 2-6.

District-wide Parent and Caregiver Group for Supporting Gender Expansive Kids
Are you the caregiver of a child who transcends traditional binary gender roles?
We are offering a supportive, ongoing group for parents and caregivers to ask questions, share ideas, and support one another. Some children may identify as transgender, gender fluid, non-binary, gender queer, gender expansive, or simply move through the world in a much more gender free type of way.
Our first meeting of the year was Thursday, September 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. at North Middle School, Room 506. This is for parents and families from all of Hopkins schools -- and from all grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school, and beyond). Laura Jensen, Hopkins Schools LGBTQ+ Community Liaison will facilitate the meetings. This is not a group to debate the issue, rather for parents looking to support their child.
