The Township High School District 211 Board of Education met on Thursday, June 20, 2024, in the Board Room of the G.A. McElroy Administration Center. Below is a recap of key items acted on and reviewed.
Administrative Appointments
Hoffman Estates High School—Ten-Month Assistant Principal
Charles Nichols was appointed ten-month assistant principal at Hoffman Estates High School. He currently is a math teacher at Fremd High School, a position he has held since 2016. During the 2023-2024 school year, Charles also served as the school’s dean of students. He began his teaching career in Indian Prairie School District 204. He holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics from Illinois State University. He also earned a master’s degree in Math Education from DePaul University and a second in Educational Administration from Roosevelt University.

Golden Apple Scholar
Conant High School student Kayla Wong has been named a 2024 Golden Apple Scholar by the Golden Apple Foundation. This is an Illinois teacher preparation and tuition assistance program for students with the determination and drive to be highly effective teachers in Illinois schools of need. The program prepares students for immediate and lasting success.
Approval of Minutes
The Board of Education approved the minutes from its May 16, 2024 meeting.
Acceptance of Donations
The Board accepted the donations of $7,500 from the Willard and Anne Levin Foundation to support Operation Snowball at Schaumburg High School; $10,085 from the District 211 Foundation for unpaid student meals at all District high schools; and $6,000 from the District 211 Foundation toward cabinetry and meal supplies to support families in need at North campus.
24-25 Tentative Budget IL Muni. Retirement/Social Security & Working Cash Funds
The Fiscal Year 2024-2025 tentative budget for Township High School District 211 was submitted for the Board’s review for the following funds – Illinois Municipal Retirement/Social Security Fund and Working Cash Fund.
The 2024-2025 tentative budget for these funds was developed in accordance with the Illinois
Program Accounting Manual and presents revenue and expenditures by category and fund. The
State format budget for these funds will be presented to you on forms provided by the Illinois State Board of Education once the budget for all funds is complete in August. More information is available here.

Superintendent Search: Planning Preparation
At the May 16, 2024 Board of Education meeting, the Board hired Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA) to assist in the search for a new superintendent for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board began a discussion in preparation for the July 18, 2024 planning meeting with HYA. The search is targeted to end in October. More information is available here.
Policy Review
Following the approval of hiring Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates at the May 16, 2024 Board of Education meeting, the board conducted an initial review of Policy CBA: Qualifications and Duties of Superintendent.
The Board of Education approved revisions to policies JFC: Student Conduct and JFCH: Prevention of and Response to Student Bullying.
The Board of Education deleted the following policies due to the revisions made to JFC: Student Conduct: JG: Student Discipline, JFCG: Tobacco Use by Students, JFCE: Student Discipline for Students on Psychotropic or Psychostimulant Medication, JGC: Social Suspension, and JGA: Corporal Punishment, Use of Physical Force, Isolated Time Out and Restraint.
Annual Review of Safety Plans, Protocols, Procedures and School Safety Drills
North Cook Intermediate Service Center & ROE Intergovernmental Agreement
Township High School District 211 has partnered with the North Cook Intermediate Service Center (NCISC) and Regional Office of Education (ROE), for many years to support students in a variety of capacities.
The Board of Education approved the North Cook Intermediate Service Center Intergovernmental Agreements as presented for the 2024-2025 academic year; and authorized the Superintendent to sign the agreement on behalf of the Board of Education.
Health and Dental Program Claims and Administration Fees
Illinois Association of School Board Membership
The Board of Education renewed their membership with the Illinois Association of School Boards for 2024-2025, and authorized the Superintendent to pay the annual dues of $19,911. More information is available here.
Appointment of School Treasurer and Assistant School Treasurer and Bond Renewal
The Board of Education reappointed Barbara Peterson as School Treasurer; and Lauren Hummel as Assistant School Treasurers of Township High School District 211, effective July 1, 2024; and further, secured treasurer bonds as presented for a combined total of $58,388.
