NC Career Day was a huge success! Big thanks go to Lauren Pullin and Tracy Paul along with all of our parent presenters and volunteers for making this a great event for our kids. Throughout the day this past Friday, TK-Grade 6 kiddos got to see a wide variety of careers. We very much appreciate all of our presenters. You were fantastic!

Congratulations to all of our Trimester 3 RAD award winners. Thank you to all Nohl Canyon students for making this a great place to be.

For our 6th Grade families, this is an exciting time. Here are a few key events to be aware of as we get close to the end of the school year:

The NCSA works carefully with Nohl Canyon teachers to select exactly the items they need in the brands they like, then purchases them in bulk, and splits them up to save YOU money and time, AND ensure that our teachers get the products that work best for their classrooms! Come August, your student's kit will be waiting in their classroom on the first day of school. It's a win-win-win!

We are thrilled to once again to offer the Santiago Canyon College “College for Kids Summer Program” for current Orange USD students in grades K-12! This free program provides fun, interactive, and engaging classes designed to support academic growth, close learning gaps, and offer rigorous enrichment opportunities. Each OUSD student may register for one free class. Space is limited, and registration will close once classes are full.

New for Summer 2025!
We are excited to introduce a brand new OUSD College & Career Exploration Summer Camp for OUSD students entering grades 4–6 in the 2025–2026 school year! This hands-on program is presented by Orange Unified’s Career Technical Education department and provides a fun and engaging way to explore real-world careers.

Location: Yorba Middle School
Session 1: June 23–26, 2025 | 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Session 2: July 7–10, 2025 | 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Key Dates to Remember:

• January 13 - January 27, 2025: Open Enrollment window for the 2025-2026 school year. Lotteries have been held for the initial window. Open Enrollment will reopen soon and continue for the 2025-26 school year.
• January 15, 2025: New Student Enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year begins.
• February 4, 2025: Inter-District Transfer window for the 2025-2026 school year opens.

TK Information:

The registration date for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) will be the same as for Kindergarten: January 15th. The OUSD website will include the enrollment and registration steps, and links for TK families to complete beginning January 15th. Please note that registration placement for the 2025-2026 school year will continue to be managed by the District Office.

TK/Kindergarten Registration Flyer

Registration for TK/Kindergarten will begin January 15th!

Birthdates of 9/2/20-9/1/21 = TK registration

Birthdates of 9/2/19-9/1/20 = Kindergarten registration

TK Parents will need to follow the 3 steps on our online Enrollment/Registration website beginning January 15th: https://www.orangeusd.org/enrollment/new-enrollment

Step 1 Gather the following documents:

• Birthdate verification (birth certificate, passport, etc.)
• Immunization Record
• Proof of Residence (utility bill, lease agreement, etc.)

*These documents must be brought to the child's home elementary school (based on address) after completing Step 2 & Step 3.

Step 2 Aeries Online Enrollment

*Important! If your child is already enrolled in one of our OUSD preschools, CDC, or OPK, Do not do Step 2, as your child already has an Aeries Student ID#. Step 2 is only for TK families new to OUSD.

If your child is not yet enrolled in OUSD, you will need to complete the online Enrollment in Step 2.

This form will ask for your top 3 preferences of OUSD schools for your child to attend.

*You will receive a confirmation email after completing Step 3.

For our Preschool families, there will be Registration Support at drop off and pick up on 1/15-1/17 provided by your site's Community Lead or our Eligibility Specialists.

2. Log in to your student’s MyOUSD Dashboard account

3. Click on the i-Ready app icon to access the iReady Dashboard

Nohl Canyon uses a "Staggered" Start and dismissal to provide some relief with traffic. Supervision in front of school begins at 7:45 am. After dismissal, supervision ends at 2:40 pm. All students need to be picked up by 2:40 pm.

If you are interested in helping with our student drop-off or pick-up, we always welcome volunteers. Work as many or as few days as you are able, morning and/or afternoon. All helpers welcome! Stop by and talk with us in the morning or afternoon or let our Front office staff know if you are interested.

Thank you for making our parking lot procedures during drop-off and pick-up a safe and efficient machine. We serve a large number of vehicles in a short period of time.

Thank you for your continued help with a few critical items:

• Supervision is provided 15 minutes before the start of school and 15 minutes after student release. Any earlier or later drop-off or pick-up needs should contact CARES if added supervision is needed.
• Please remember our Lower lot (including angled spaces in front of the office) is Staff Only Parking. The lower entrance on Nohl Canyon RD is ENTRANCE ONLY in the Afternoon for Middle Lane traffic going to park in the FAR lot. Two-way use of this entrance presents a significant hazard to entering cars and pedestrian traffic.
• Please do not park in designated Reserved Spaces (Staff/CARES/Handicap).
• Please be kind to our parking lot volunteers. They make the whole thing work.
• Please ask your kiddos to walk when in front of school. Running children in the pick up area presents several hazards. Safety is our first priority.
• Trinity School Parking Lot is CLOSED for drop-off and pick-up parking.

• Parents, with respect to Trinity Pre-School and their families, we are not allowing Nohl Canyon families to park in the Trinity parking lot. Please follow this guideline and support us in keeping a positive community relationship with Trinity School. Trinity will often allow us to use their lot for special events but should not be used for drop-off or pick-up.
• Please remain clear of the Trinity lawn areas. Trinity lawns should not be used for students waiting for drop-off or pick-up. Students should always be picked up from our school site. If students are still here after 2:40pm, we bring them behind our school gates into our QUAD area for safety until parent pick-up. Please do not have your students wait at the Trinity site for pick-up.
• Please be sure to use crosswalks when crossing all major roads. Students being dropped off on Nohl Canyon Rd. and then proceeding across the street, presents a significant hazard to those students.
• Keep in mind, the Nohl Canyon Rd. entrance to our parking area is only to be used during afternoon pick-up and is limited to Middle Lane traffic that is pulling all the way through the lot to park in the back school lot.

Please take a moment to review the Nohl Canyon Uniform Policy:

Nohl Canyon has a student uniform policy that is in alignment with the districts uniform policy. Schools whose students wear uniforms have indicated that a uniform policy is a creative and positive way to increase student achievement and decreases student behavioral problems. Based upon the interest of Nohl Canyon parents and staff, our school will continue with our Student Uniform Policy.

UNIFORM POLICY:

Tops - Nohl Canyon Uniform shirts are to be worn each day. NC Spirit shirts are allowed throughout the week, along with scheduled themed days (Wednesday = College day). Nohl Canyon allows Free Dress on the final Friday of each month. Tops should be of a size to allow for freedom of movement to accommodate physical education and active, safe play with no undergarments showing.

Bottoms - Uniform bottoms are to be any type* of solid bottoms with no holes, stripes, or patterns. Colors are Black, Blue, Khaki, uniform plaid. Shorts should be of Bermuda style to help protect skin during active play. Bottoms should be of a size to allow for freedom of movement to accommodate physical education and active, safe play with no undergarments showing.

*Sweatpants not allowed

Shoes - Shoes should be closed toe with non-slip soles and allow for safe freedom of movement to accommodate physical education and active, safe play. Crocs are not allowed due to slip and support concerns during active play.

Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:

1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.

2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.

3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack

2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office

Nohl Canyon has a wide range of students in a variety of activities; Dance, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Cheer, Karate, Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey..plus many more. Orange Junior Soccer Club's (OJSC) Recreational League recently wrapped up its Spring season. Penelope Torres and MacKenzie Fields - classmates in Mrs. Norman's 3rd grade class - were part of the G2015 Dazzle Divas, which finished with a 7-1-1 record, scoring 25 goals and allowing just 7 en route to a 1st place finish. Way to go girls. Fantastic!
