Yoga for Mind and Body
Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
What a beautiful spring time this is; everything is in full bloom!
We look forward to seeing everyone for parent teacher conferences this week. It’s quite unreal that we are already coming together to look back on the school year and sharing and discussing how each child progressed and developed this year. With the review we are also looking towards the next school year and imagining and envisioning all the wonderful things the children will experience next year.
On a personal note I would like to share that I’m enjoying and working hard to complete everything in the administration in these last weeks. I look forward to finishing my time serving as the administrator of this wonderful school. It so happens that I was very interested and pulled to working directly with the children; and I’m so grateful that the faculty hired me as the first grade teacher for next year. I can’t wait to dive deeply into studying the 1st grade Waldorf curriculum and to welcoming this beautiful new group of children into the school in early September.
Thank you to all children who participated in our last fundraiser, the Read-A-Thon! We can’t wait to see what classes will be the winners.
Please plan on joining us for the Dragonfly graduation on Thursday, June 6th at 4pm here on campus. It’s always such a gift to see children, who have attended our school for eight solid years, giving their final speech and saying farewell to the school knowing that they have received an incredible education and so many tools, tricks and experiences. We hope to see many of you there!
Have a wonderful Memorial weekend! Blessings on our school, Aurilia

Looking for 1st Grade and 2nd Grade Classroom Assistant:
The Siskiyou School is looking for a 1st and 2nd Grade Classroom Assistant/Aid who will support the lead teacher and the class for the 2024-2025 school year. The work will begin in late August 2024. This position is paid on an hourly basis; no benefits. The hours are 8-11am pm, Monday - Thursday, and 8:00-12:45 on Fridays. Responsibilities include tag teaming with the lead teacher as needed through the morning, supporting children who need that extra bit of attention to allow the lead teacher to hold the whole, and helping with class logistics to ensure a seamless flow for the children from one activity to the next. The assistant needs to have 1-2 years of experience working with children in some assisting or teaching capacity and some knowledge about Waldorf education; additionally an up to date First Aid/CPR certificate. If interested, please email Aurilia.mcnamara@siskiyouschool.org.
Honeybee Class (Siskiyou School Class of 2020) Celebration!
Last Thursday, the faculty hosted the graduating seniors (High School Class of 2024) of the Honeybee Class here on campus in a fun informal celebration. More than 11 students from the class gathered together to chat, play four-square, and see the campus once more before they head off to college or other adventures! It was fun having Mr. Beech (their 8th grade teacher) with them and we were thrilled to see how they'd grown. The Siskiyou School is always a home for our alumni and we're thankful they return to us again and again.
Butterfly Class Animal Projects
Congratulations to Mr. Criswell's 4th graders for some spectacular animal projects! We enjoyed seeing your creativity and excellent work on display last week!
Dragonfly Class End of Year Trip
As we begin to turn towards saying goodbye to our 8th graders, we wanted to share just a few amazing photos from their end-of-year trip the Dragonfly Class took at the beginning of this month. They spent the time together on the Oregon Coast, reflecting on their Siskiyou journey together.
Chess Club Wrap-Up
Greetings everyone! Last Friday we had our final Chess Club meeting of the year.
We did our weekly end-game puzzles and then the students went around and shared something they had learned from the year. I appreciated the variety of responses, from "How the pieces move" to "Forks and pins" (tactics) and "Castling". It showed that both the ideas and the language are slowly starting to sink in. And, watching their games, even those who don't always seem to be paying attention during the instruction moments, have elevated their games just from regular play.
We also wrapped up our hopefully-back-to-an-annual Chess Tournament. Thank you for all those who participated - Avi Boesch (2nd grade), Emmet Friedman (3rd), Demian Grebennik (3rd), Orin Menard (5th), and Satori Neff (homeschool). You all played some of your best games over the last five weeks. After a lot of back and forth in the standings, Avi Boesch emerged as the overall winner. In the last game of the tournament, he picked up a point with a quick five-move checkmate to win by ½ point (you get one point for a win, ½ point for a draw or stalemate). Emmet Friedman was a close 2nd, and the top four contestants were all only separated by a single point. So close! It was great seeing the added focus that playing in the tournament brought. There was also a number of students who expressed interest in next year's tournament, so hopefully it will be much bigger.
If your child would like any summer chess instruction, or if you haven't yet paid for Session 2, please contact me : dustin.monda@siskiyouschool.org
Thank you everyone, and I will see you all in Chess Club again next year. Mr. Monda
