A Message from Sinking Springs
Dear Families,
What a wonderful start! We are quickly learning the schedules and routines of the new school year. It is remarkable how quickly these pieces fall into place. The sunshine outside matches the mood of everyone at Sinking Springs Elementary. There are so many smiling faces. I hope the start of the school year has been a smooth transition for your families. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions.
At SSE, our routines are centered around Sinking Springs SPIRIT. On Friday, we will have a school-wide assembly to kick off the school year with positivity! Ask your child about the assembly. I hope they feel inspired to let their SPIRIT shine! "SPIRIT" represents the following:
- S-Self-Control
- I show self-control by managing my emotions and behaviors.
- P- Pride
- I show pride by making good choices and always trying my best with my schoolwork.
- I-Inspiration
- I show inspiration through my positive actions and decisions.
- R- Respect
- I show respect to myself, others, and our building.
- I- Intelligence
- I show intelligence by being involved in my learning and making thoughtful decisions.
- T-Trust
- I show I am trustworthy by being honest and dependable.
This week, the orange take-home folder will include many items for you to review. Please take a moment to look over these papers.
Save the Date: Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 4, from 6:30 to 8:00. I will share more details in next week's message.
I've included photos from the first day of school in this message.
Please let me know if you have any questions at 717- 846-6789 ext. 1700 or email hdick@cysd.k12.pa.us.

GREETINGS FROM OUR SINKING SPRINGS HEAD COOK
Dear Parents and Students
My name is Erika Kennedy, and I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Head Cook at Sinking Springs Elementary. I have been working in the cafeteria at Sinking Springs for the last 7 school years, and I am excited to welcome all of you to a new school year.
As a parent of two very active kids in our district, I understand the importance of providing nutritious and delicious meals for our students. I initially joined the cafeteria team to be closer to my children, and I quickly discovered my passion for preparing and serving meals that the students enjoy. This passion led me to pursue a full-time role, and I am proud to be a part of this wonderful community.
Our cafeteria is dedicated to offering a variety of healthy and tasty options for breakfast and lunch. We strive to accommodate all dietary needs, ensuring every student has access to balanced meals. Additionally, we are committed to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment where students can enjoy their meals and recharge for the rest of their day.
If your child has special dietary needs for this school year or had special dietary needs in the past school year and no longer has these needs, please print and fill out the forms below and return to school. Your input is crucial in helping us meet the needs of every student.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions about our cafeteria, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us continue to improve and provide the best possible experience for our students.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to serving your student(s) this school year.
Warm Regards,
Erika Kennedy

CAR RIDER DROP OFF & PICK UP
Student car rider arrival and parent pick-up procedures will stay the same as last school year. Below is a description of these procedures for our new families:
- Use the access road that runs behind the school.
- Parents will not leave their vehicles.
- Morning arrival
- Beginning at 8:40 AM, students will exit one vehicle at a time at the end of the access road. School staff will supervise as students walk from cars and enter the school through the cafeteria entrance.
- Car rider dismissal
- Students will be dismissed for parent pick-up starting at 3:30.
- Families will receive two nameplates on your car dashboard so that staff can “check you in” as you travel the route and get your child ready to meet you at the end of the route. These nameplates will come home on the first day of school.
- Staff will supervise students as they exit the school cafeteria doors and approach vehicles along the pick-up route
