Spring Term - 2nd March 2023
Message from the Executive Headteacher
Seeing the whole school enjoying such a special day and really getting into the spirit of World Book Day is a real pleasure. The enthusiasm of all the staff for getting involved and encouraging the children is one of the aspects of HJS I am most proud of. We really do have a staff team to be proud of and who bring so much to our school.
Retaining our great staff and recruiting new members of the team is key to the continued success of HPP.
Ms H Lockey

HJS Reading Ambassadors
Am sure you will agree - the children all looked amazing on World Book Day! Here is a selection of some of the wonderful outfits.
6GK- had a great World Book Day and had some great costumes! We also enjoyed Miss De-Beer who came in and read to us. In the afternoon, we did some Art based on: “The Witching Hour’ from ‘The BFG’ by Roald Dahl. Thanks to everyone who was involved in such a fabulous day.
6L showed up in some amazing costumes for all the exciting WBD activities on Wednesday.
Community Senior Letters Scheme
HJS are very excited to be taking part in the ‘Community Senior Letters’ scheme. This is an initiative which matches schools and residential care homes. We have been matched with Abbeycrest Nursing Home in Sonning Common. It is a nursing home which provides residential, nursing and dementia care.
The focus of the project is for children to write letters and pictures which will then be sent to the care home. This creates a valuable connection as well as combating loneliness and feelings of isolation the elderly residents may be feeling. It also teaches the children valuable life lessons, such as compassion for those in vulnerable situations and selflessness as they carry out good deeds for the benefit of others.
During our mental health week, where the focus was ‘Connecting’, all classes created art work or wrote letters to introduce themselves and Hampton Junior School. Here are some of the fantastic examples which will be sent to Abbeycrest Nursing Home.
From this point on, in order to manage the flow of letters, we will be allocating one year group every month to be responsible for communicating with the nursing home for that month. March will be allocated to year 3 and we look forward to sending the residents some lovely spring poems and pictures.
I look forward to showing you some of the artwork and perhaps some replies from the residents soon.
