This week...
We celebrated Ascension Mass in Church (see below for further info).
It's incredible that even our youngest Mini Vinnies, in Year 2, were brave enough to stand and face a packed Church and read so confidently - that takes a lot of courage!
Each week that we attend Mass, we are noticing how much more reverent, comfortable and engaged the children are - even our tiniest 3 year old pre-schoolers! Father Sean and several parishioners have also said the same. We are incredibly proud of our amazing children!
We've been enjoying the sunshine this week and are excited to hear that our fantastic Friends of St Joseph's have arranged an impromptu freeze pop Treat Friday today, to make the most of the weather! See you there... !
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue - Kindness
Our current virtue is kindness. Showing kindness to others is a very important feature of our school and is already something we do very well. We have been exploring why it is important to be kind and thinking about how we can celebrate acts of kindness. Our Mini Vinnies have created a kindness postbox, where people can post notes about acts of kindness they have seen across school.
When your child shows kindness at home, please let me know so we can celebrate this in school too!
Other Faiths Week
Each term, we celebrate 'Other Faiths Week' across school. This week, we have been exploring Buddhism. The children have loved learning about the origins and traditions of Buddhism and what it means to be a Buddhist today.

Snail update
Our little baby snails are growing quite quickly! One is now as big as Ms Nihill's thumbnail! They're still a bit shy and we see them most often when they're enjoying grazing on their lettuce. Our St Nicholas children are fascinated by them!
Year 6 SATs
Next week, our Year 6 children will be sitting their SATs tests. We are very proud of all our children, regardless of their outcomes. We ask only that they try their hardest. Please keep our Year 6 children in your prayers this coming week.
Year 6s - we're looking forward to welcoming you into school early this week for SATs breakfasts!
Request
If you have any planters or gardening canes going spare, could you please bring these into school? We are growing lots of different plants, fruit and veg in school and they are rapidly outgrowing their little pots!
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 95.72%
Hurray - our attendance is much better again this week! Super to see!
As a mum, I know how manic mornings can feel! We are grateful that you are doing such a good job in getting our children to school each day and on time. Thank you!
We have been learning...
St Nicholas (Nursery)
Our learning this week has been based on the book, 'Guess How Much I Love You'. The children have been interested in what rabbits eat, so we have been tasting carrots and dips. The children tried humous, salsa, sour cream, guacamole and nacho cheese! They all said the carrots were very tasty.
St Francis (Preschool/Reception)
In Maths this week, we have been manipulating shapes by rotating them to compose patterns. We used Numicon and baseboards to orientate the shapes to 'fit' correctly onto the baseboard patterns. We also looked at different shape and colour repeated patterns and created our own using salt dough shapes, link cubes, peg boards and tangram templates!
St Bernadette (Y1/Y2)
St Bernadette's have enjoyed learning about Buddhism in Other Faiths week! We learnt about the origins and some of their practices. We tried some meditation and then created our own Mandala patterns!
St Patrick (Y3/Y4)
We have just started our new writing unit about persuasive language and are learning how to plan and write a holiday brochure! We have found fantastic facts about Sicily which we are going to use over the next few lessons. We used the Chromebooks to gather facts and bullet points, headings and pictures to help structure our work.
St Therese (Y5/Y6)
We learned about the core beliefs of Buddhism, where and how it originated, and some of the key symbols associated with it. We even had a dress-up experience in class! The parasol represents protection from harm and suffering.
