FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at our Annual Back to School BBQ this upcoming Thursday (8/22) beginning at 5:00pm. A reminder to please bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and games to enjoy!
As many of you know, yesterday the Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During an address on the Solemnity of the Assumption in 2010, Pope Benedict XVI remarked that:
"Mary's example of faithful perseverance in doing the will of God and her heavenly reward are a source of courage and hope for all of us."
I pray that we may all share in this courage and hope as we look ahead and prepare for the start of the 2024-2025 school year!
Below you'll find detailed information on the following:

Revision to the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar
Friday, September 27th will be an 11:30am Dismissal with No Aftercare
As some families may have seen via Facebook, Mr. Peloquin met with Officer Ferri and the Coventry Police Department last week to review our safety protocol and emergency operations plan. This review is conducted annually to ensure the school's policies and protocols reflect the latest guidance.
In addition to this annual review, faculty and staff receive annual emergency response training through ALICE Training Solutions. There are two components to the ALICE Training Program. First, all staff complete online learning modules and assessments at the start of each year. In addition, faculty and staff participate in "live" emergency response training with the local police department. These trainings are completed without students in the building.
After meeting with Coventry Police, a live training for faculty and staff has been schedule for Friday, September 27th. To accommodate this training, Friday, September 27th will be an early dismissal day with students dismissed at 11:30am. In addition, aftercare will not be available on the 27th, as all faculty and staff must participate in the training.
Please note that a revised academic calendar reflecting this change has been attached below. Thank you for your understanding as we take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our school community.
Introducing Homework Helper at FJVD
Open to Students in Grades 2-8
We're pleased to introduce a new after school option for students in grades 2-8. Running Monday-Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 (or 2:30-3:00 for students in grades 2-4), the Homework Helper program provides students the opportunity to work on homework in a quiet, focused environment with direct supervision. A teacher will be available to answer basic questions, help students stay focused and organized, and assist students in managing their time and assignments.
The cost to utilize the program is billed monthly ($100/month for 5-8, $50/month for 2-4). Students may also visit Home Helper on a "drop-in" basis for $15.00 per day.
Is your student interested in participating? You can register for the first month of Homework Helper here: REGISTER NOW
Please note LIMITED SPACE is available! Register soon!
Please see the attached flyer below for more information.
Lunch Ordering NOW AVAILABLE on the Family Portal!
As noted in last week's Newsletter, based upon feedback from recent parent surveys, the school is making changes to its lunch program. In the academic year ahead, the school will be partnering with Olde Theater Diner and other local vendors to offer a variety of daily hot and cold lunch options.
This allows the school to provide a high quality lunch at the same price as last year with improvements to the ordering timeline. Ordering will now be completed for every two weeks rather than monthly.
Ordering is now LIVE for August 30th - September 13th. For a quick guide to ordering lunch from the FJVD App, see the flyer here. All orders must be placed no later than August 22nd.
Bon appetit!
