Deer Hill is so excited to welcome students back to the building on Tuesday, September 3. This first newsletter is full of information that will help you transition smoothly into a new school year. Thank you for taking a peek. You'll also receive an email from me just before school starts to offer some final need to knows.

Deer Hill Family Handbook: Please see the Deer Hill Family Handbook which has been updated for the 2024-2025 school year. It is also linked on the Deer Hill website and will always be linked in the newsletters as well.

Classroom Assignments: Later today the Aspen Family Portal will re-open and you'll be able to login to see classroom assignments. Until that occurs, you will see an expired password message. If needed, you may reset your own password on the site. If you have any additional difficulties, please email aspensupport@cohassetk12.org. Please note that our school secretaries are no longer able to reset passwords and will redirect you to these steps.

School Supply Lists: The Deer Hill teachers worked together to create recommended supply lists that are customized by grade level - just go to the School Tool Box website and click on the grade your child will be in to see the list of supplies they'll need. You can also add or subtract supplies if you already have some things or would like to donate extras of others. Lastly, while this is a fundraiser for our PSO, you're welcome to use the provided lists to shop on your own if the back to school aisle at Target is your happy place!

Arrival and Dismissal: A reminder for the first day: Doors open at Deer Hill at 9:05 each morning. Bus riders, walkers, and bikers enter through the front doors. All car drop offs must enter through the back loop. On the first day we will have all staff on deck to ensure students make a smooth transition into school and are able to find their new classrooms. Dismissal is at 3:25. Thank you for reviewing additional details about arrivals and dismissals in our handbook and for ensuring your child knows their arrival and dismissal plans.

Transportation: For information about school transportation, please visit the transportation page of the CPS website. All students must be registered through transportation in order to ride the bus.

Mosquito Spraying: Cohasset schools have been scheduled for mosquito spraying on Friday, August 23, 2024, between the hours of 2:00am and sunrise. Attached is the consumer information bulletin and the pesticides fact sheet.

Summer Facilities Update: This summer Deer Hill completed the final phase of our re-tiling project. Begun the summer of 2020, we have now retiled all spaces in our building, and it looks great! This upgrade was possible through our town Capital budget process and the work of the town Facilities department to coordinate installation. Additionally, thank you to parent volunteer, Dee Riley, for tending our vegetable garden and flowering planters this summer. Thank you also to Cohasset DPW for their fall cleanup of our courtyard space. Lastly, a huge shout out to Deer Hill's custodial team who has worked tirelessly to ready our building for the school year!

Deer Hill's Comfort Dog: As many of you know, Deer Hill has a new four-legged staff member joining our ranks this year. In addition to our ongoing Reading Rovers program in partnership with Cohasset Working Dog Foundation, Hugo will be our resident comfort dog. At just over 5 months old, Hugo is still a puppy who is busy training and who needs regular naps. Therefore, this fall he'll be easing his way into the building with a few half days throughout the week and some light, well-structured interactions with students. If you have any questions or would like to opt out of your child's interactions with Hugo, please don't hesitate to contact me.
