Father-Daughter Dance is POSTPONED!
Due to an overwhelming number of students out sick, we are going to POSTPONE THE FATHER DAUGHTER DANCE at this time.
We want our community members and kiddos to have an enjoyable time and feel that it is in the best interest of school health to encourage families to stay home and get better!
We will have a new date to announce ASAP and will honor refunds to those families who are unable to attend our new date.
My deepest heartfelt apologies, but I want to make it the best experience possible.

This week is National Counselor Appreciation Week, and we have so much to be thankful for in Reardan. We have a team of dedicated professionals who strive to ensure that all students in Reardan feel supported and cared for. Elementary Counselor Jill Singleton is working to support students through MTSS and PBIS; High School Counselor Matt Ballance focuses on ensuring that all students graduate high school and have a post high school college and career plan; Darren Mattozzi and Elisabeth Roberts are our prevention experts who spend time educating and supporting our students K-12 through a variety of large and small group and individual counseling, and we have two Behavioral Health Therapists, Catheryn Logwood and Maddie Drennen (not pictured). Catheryn also works with students in a variety of settings to strengthen their mental health and coping skills, as does Maddie, who is a telehealth therapist. Together this team strives to educate and support our students to be their strongest and healthiest selves.
Elementary Highlights
Building Numeracy and Fact Fluency
Numeracy and fact fluency are essential skills that help children build confidence in math and develop problem-solving abilities that will support them throughout their education. When students quickly recall basic math facts, they can focus on more difficult concepts without getting stuck on simple calculations. Strong numeracy skills also help children apply math in real-life situations, such as measuring ingredients while cooking or managing money.
How to Support Your Child at Home
Play Math Games: Card games, dice games, and board games that involve numbers can make math fun and engaging.
Practice Mental Math: Encourage your child to solve simple math problems in their head while driving or shopping. Ask, "If we have 3 apples and buy 2 more, how many do we have?"
Use Everyday Math: Have your child help with cooking, measuring, budgeting, or telling time to show how math applies to daily life.
Make Flashcards Fun: Use flashcards for quick math fact practice, but keep it light and playful—try racing against a timer or turning it into a game.
Encourage Real-World Problem-Solving: Ask your child to estimate the total cost while grocery shopping or count change when paying.
With regular practice in a fun and low-pressure way, your child can develop strong math skills that set them up for success!
Valentine’s Day Reminders for Parents
Teachers will send home details about classroom Valentine’s Day celebrations.
If your child brings valentines, they must bring one for each student in their class.
Please note that stuffed animal and flower deliveries can disrupt the learning environment. We encourage you to celebrate the day at home.
Any delivered items will not be given to students until the end of the day, and they must be small enough to be safely transported on the bus.
Thank you for helping us keep the day fun and focused on learning!
Please Send Your Child to School Prepared for Winter Weather
Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens next week. Please ensure your child comes to school with a warm coat and gloves each day. When the weather is freezing, students without a coat may need to miss recess or will be provided with a coat from our lost and found. Additionally, we highly recommend snow boots and snow pants to keep students’ feet warm and their clothes dry.
Cold & Flu Season Is Here!
Our elementary school has been hit hard by cold and flu season, affecting both staff and students. Please help us keep our school healthy by following these guidelines:
- Encourage Hand Washing – Remind your child to wash their hands frequently, especially before eating and after coughing or sneezing.
- Keep Your Child Home If They’re Sick – If your child has a fever, vomiting, or other flu-like symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.
- Cover Coughs & Sneezes – Teach your child to cough or sneeze into their elbow or a tissue.
- Prioritize Rest – Getting plenty of sleep helps strengthen the immune system.
P.I.E. Updates:
****The Daddy-Daughter Dance has been postponed. Please follow the Reardan P.I.E. Facebook page and watch for updates with details about the rescheduled date.***
P.I.E. will be selling candy grams for Valentine’s Day! P.I.E. volunteers will be on-site Thursday and Friday to sell them in person, and they are also available for purchase via Venmo. Keep an eye out for a flyer coming home in your child’s backpack with more details!

Students enjoyed their PBIS end of the month award and reward activity–line dancing with Stacy Burtenshaw and games such as chess, checkers, and poker. They also got to enjoy a cereal bar which really added to the fun. This month we are focusing on the character trait of Honesty and reminding all students that electronic devices should be stored in lockers for the day. Students with no electronics violations or major office referrals will be eligible to attend the end of the month reward activity. Please work with your child to be sure they understand and follow our district policy–students who aren’t focused on their electronic devices are much better able to focus on their schoolwork! In February we will also celebrate First Semester Honor Roll Students; Reardan Rising (improved grades) Students; and Bus Riders of the Week for the month.
We are also having a great time with our February Family Connect Games Tournament. Student representatives from all of the family groups signed up to compete against each other in approximately ten different games: chess, checkers, Uno, Jenga, Mario Cart, cornhole, and badminton to name a few. We are working on building our social emotional skills of social engagement and management through cross age competition. Ask your child what games they are playing and how their Family Connect group is doing!
High School Highlights
Dear Parents,
We’ve had a great week at school, but we’ve also seen a lot of sickness going around. To help keep everyone healthy, please keep your child home if they are feeling unwell. As a reminder, students must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school. We appreciate your help in keeping our school community healthy!

- Tre Boyd (security officer at my old school) – I saw him as an older brother who was always there for me.
- Kellen Morgan & Perly at Reardan – They pushed me to do my best and are people I feel comfortable talking to.
Good luck in Spokane, Jimmy! We know you’ll do great as a diesel mechanic!
