PRAYER FOR AUTUMN DAYS
God of the seasons, there is a time for everything: there is a time for dying and a time for rising. We need courage to enter into the transformation process.
God of autumn, the trees are saying goodbye to their green, letting go of what has been. We, too, have our moments of surrender, with all their insecurity and risk. Help us to let go when we need to do so.
God of fallen leaves lying in colored patterns on the ground, our lives have their own patterns. As we see the patterns of our own growth, may we learn from them.
God of misty days and harvest moon nights, there is always the dimension of mystery and wonder in our lives. We always need to recognize your power-filled presence. May we gain strength from this.
God of harvest wagons and fields of ripened grain, many gifts of growth lie within the season of our surrender. We must wait for harvest in faith and hope. Grant us patience when we do not see the blessings.
God of geese going south for another season, your wisdom enables us to know what needs to be left behind and what needs to be carried into the future. We yearn for insight and vision.
God of flowers touched with frost and windows wearing white designs, may your love keep our hearts from growing cold in the empty seasons.
God of life, you believe in us, you enrich us, you entrust us with the freedom to choose life. For all this, we are grateful.
Amen.
A Note from Mrs. Longden
"What makes God’s love so much stronger and more powerful is that it is personal, given particularly to every one of us as if there is no one else in all the world. God loves you personally; for you alone He created the world and all its wonders; for love of you alone He became man and desired to be your guide, your servant, your friend, your defender, and your companion in the journey from time to eternity”." ~St. Peter Julian Eymard Saint of the Eucharist
Sometimes people think that God has forgotten them or doesn’t love them. Do you think this way? Without a doubt we all have different backgrounds, experiences, and stories that make us who we are. Perhaps your journey has been a rough one, filled with twists and turns, setbacks, failures, heartbreak and pain. This is true for many people. But God is not overcome by your struggles in life. Not at all. He can handle you and all your complexities, weaknesses, and problems. Your problems are not problems for God. They are opportunities for Him to shower his love on you. Remember: the squeaky wheel gets the grease; the child with the most wounds receives the most kisses.
Reflect: Do you believe that God loves you personally? Why is the Holy Eucharist the greatest expression of God’s personal love for you? How does God’s personal love change your life, thoughts and actions?
Humility is the true evaluation of ourselves with all our limitations. If we’re truly humble, we’ll admit our shortcomings, but we’ll also recognize our God-given qualities and abilities. As we grow in self-knowledge and humility, we should desire to serve God and others in ways best suited for our talents.
Humility urges us to do good for others without attracting attention or expecting applause; a realistic opinion of ourselves prompts us to give credit for gifts and successes to God. The secret to winning heaven? Losing our self-love in the virtue of humility. “Whoever, therefore, shall humble himself as [a] little child will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:4)
Blessings,
Mrs. Longden
Theme
Father Patrick has picked a theme for this year for our school:
To Jesus we go, through Mary
During our staff retreat, Father Patrick shared the theme with us and ways we can grow closer to Mary. Mary helps us to know Jesus in a deeper way. Our goal is to continue to deepen our relationship with Jesus, with the help of Mary. We want to follow Mary's example and be close to Jesus during the events in our life.
