The vision of Northbrook Middle School is to be Grounded in Excellence as we cultivate High Performing students in a Nurturing Environment. Please consider nominating a teacher you feel exemplifies Northbrook's vision of excellence, professionalism, and a willingness to go above and beyond on a daily basis. Two nominated teachers per month will be recognized at the faculty meeting for this special recognition. Tip of the Week!
Solving Sample Problems Reinforces Concepts
Suppose your teen is about to start a math assignment. Before solving assigned problems, have your teen copy a sample problem from the textbook, or one that the teacher solved in class, onto a fresh sheet of paper, then close the book and put away the class notes.
Can your student solve the problem independently? Maybe not. And believe it or not, that’s not bad news. Because now your teen needs to work through the sample problem again. Your teen may need to check notes or reread the book. But your student will learn what steps to follow and why, and will be prepared to do the assignment.
Title I Annual Parent Meeting
1. An Overview of Title I Federal Programs
2. Northbrook Middle School Local School Plan for Improvement Goals
3. Curriculum, Testing, Academic Support for Students
4. Engagement Opportunities for Families
5. Review of the Northbrook Title I budget
We've moved this meeting to 11:00am in order to make the meeting more convenient for our families. Our eighth graders are presenting their science projects on September 24 at 9:30am, so we've moved our meeting to allow families to stay to attend the Title I Parent Meeting.
Picture Day! September 25
Students-Don’t be a blank spot in the yearbook! School picture day is on September 25th. School portraits will be taken by BPI Photography and are a great way to preserve your child’s school memories. These pictures also serve as a school fundraiser, so please remember to participate.
Order forms have been sent home with your student, but for those who wish to order online using a debit or credit card, click our school’s prepay link below to order:
1. Online Prepay Purchase / Credit Cards: https://bpiphotography.net/view-order-photos/
2. Cash or Check (with an order form, collected by a BPI photographer)
- a. ONLY accepted on Picture Day
- b. Cash - Exact Change only
- c. Checks made payable to: BPI Photography
Pre-Orders are available through picture day, and those packages will be delivered back to the school for your child to bring home. You CAN still order pictures after picture day all-year long, but post-picture day orders ship directly home, so there will be a residential shipping charge. BPI guarantees 100% satisfaction. If you are unsatisfied, upon return of your original package, you may receive a full refund. You may also have your student retake their picture on makeup day and BPI will reorder that package for you.
Visit our photographer's website at www.bpiphotography.net or call (866) 363-6936 with questions. As always, thank you for your continued support!
iReady Individual Student Progress Reports
At the beginning of each school year, students take a Math and a Literacy Screener using the iREADY platform. The Individual Student Progress Reports from the Fall 2024 iReady Administration are now available in ParentVUE under the "Documents" tab. For information about how to interpret your child's iREADY screener results, please use this link - https://i-readycentral.com/familycenter/understand-your-students-i-ready-diagnostic-results/
6th & 8th Grade Scoliosis Screening
Scoliosis screening is required for all students in grades 6 and 8 who attend public school in Georgia. The screening is done yearly in the middle school grades as required by State Law (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-772), Department of Community Health, and State Department of Education guidelines. Northbrook Middle School will support scoliosis screening on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
Scoliosis is a sideways curve of the spine. About 3% of children are affected by scoliosis. It can occur at any age but is often noticeable between the ages of 9 and 16, when growth occurs rapidly. Early detection is important to avoid potentially serious problems later in life if a spinal curve is not recognized, treated, and it continues to progress. The screening test is an observation of the child’s back when standing and bending forward. The procedure for screening is a simple observation test in which the screener looks at the child’s back in the standing position and the forward bending position. Boys and girls are screened separately. Your child will be asked to remove their shirt. Girls should wear a sports bra or bathing suit top. Accurate screening cannot be performed if girls are wearing camisoles.
If your child has a suspected abnormal curvature, you will be notified by letter from the Gwinnett County Health Department of the results and the need for further follow-up screening either by the Health Department or private physician. If your child is absent on the day of screening, please contact your local health department or private physician for scoliosis screening.
Additional information is coming home to sixth and eighth grade parents in the form of a letter and ParentSquare. This letter will include information on how to opt-out if you choose.

Hispanic Heritage Month
We are excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to honor the rich history, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. From September 15th to October 15th, we will be highlighting the diverse experiences and achievements of our Hispanic and Latino students and staff. On October 4, we will be hosting a Hispanic Heritage Day to showcase the vibrant cultures and traditions of Hispanic and Latino communities. We encourage our students to wear clothes that represent their Hispanic culture. Let's come together to appreciate and celebrate the diversity that makes our school community so special.
