The Wildcat Week Ahead
4/15 - 4/19
Happy Sunday, GIS!
One more week of school until April break, and we are wrapping up the year with some fun events!
- This week, we have our school-wide bowling trip. We don't have parents chaperone this trip because the whole school goes, and we have plenty of staff, but thank you to everyone who has offered!
- Art and Music night- more on the logistics coming soon!
- Family math and literacy game night with spaghetti dinner- info coming soon!
- Island Music Festival
- Rowing Regatta in Alburgh (I can't remember which grades participate, but Mr. Foster can help if you have questions.)
- Local testing (iReady and classroom assessments) *added at the end because it's not as fun as the things above it 😂
Behavior has increased over the past few weeks, which is typical right before a break. One of our best tools and strategies is to involve family. Your involvement in education is crucial, and we will always include you once we notice a trend or the behavior is concerning. While I value this learning community so much, at the top of my list is having honest conversations about how your students are doing so we can best support them!
Please see other important updates below!
As always, my door and inbox are always open,

GIS is Going to Try Coordinate a Bike Bus!
Mrs. Pearson had a fabulous idea and we're going to try to make it work! It's called a bike bus and you can watch the video below and read an article.
The bike trailer is coming to GIS the first full week of May and we're thinking about wrapping up bike week with a bike bus.
Stay tuned for more information!
Exciting News!
Getting quality mental health care is challenging. When you add the potential cost to families in co-pays and travel, there can be significant barriers to getting kids what they need.
About six weeks ago, I began searching for a mental health provider who could come into Grand Isle School and provide services to students. My search led me to Dr. Shelley Jackson! Dr. Shelley is a licensed clinician in VT, TX, and CT. She specializes in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), play therapy, expressive arts therapies, supervision, psychodrama, and the delivery of evidenced practices with diverse children and families, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
Dr. Shelley will be starting at Grand Isle School this week and will have space to work with approximately 15 students. There will be some spots for parent referrals and some spots for school referrals. Regardless of whether a referral comes from a family or school, parent/guardian consent is required.
If you are interested in putting in a parent request or would like more information, please email me.
