Meet Tracy Laborde, our Project Manager!
Tracy Laborde and I enjoyed meeting new people and seeing many of our partner districts from all over the state of Texas at the TASA Midwinter Conference in Austin, January 28th and 29th. We have already signed up new districts and look forward to adding more. Please share our newsletter with a neighboring district and encourage them to ask about our Midwinter Conference Discount through the month of March. We are here to help districts with compliance with state and federal education law and best practices. ~ Debby Moore, CEO
Campus Operational Section
- The section on special education video audio cameras has been updated to comply with TAC, Chapter 31 and the Texas Education Code. A new protocol is being added to cover the appeal or complaint process when a denial for installation or viewing of a video has been determined. See the section in Campus Operational under Video Audio Monitoring.
- In response to several requests from our districts, the subject of food in the classroom and bringing food for school parties has been addressed with the new Pro.Food in the Classroom.
- A district also requested that we develop a protocol that addresses how professional organizations should function on campus. See Pro.Professional Organizations.
- The section under below the 90% rule has been reorganized for ease in locating documents for the 75-90% Rule and Below the 75% Rule and the Process/Timelines.
District Operational Section
- Many districts are working toward growing their own and preparing current staff members to become campus administrators. TxSP was asked to develop guidelines and an application process for an internship program. As a reminder, we have a section on helping your district develop its own Administrator Leadership Academy. Great time to start planning for the next school year.
- There are some updates to the transfer section. This section covers appeals for denials, inter and intra-district guidelines and what to do when a resident becomes a non-resident. TxSP has added some suggested timelines and a new protocol for interdistrict transfers.
- As part of the process of ensuring up-to-datePEIMS records, we have developed and posted oath and affidavit cycle reports for 6 week and 9-week grading cycles.
Counseling Section
- At the suggestion of a district that uses the counseling section extensively, it has been reorganized and some file cabinets renamed to make it easier to navigate and find documents with fewer clicks.
- In the secondary filing drawer, the personal graduation plan (required under TEC, Chapter 28) has been updated and a protocol was developed to guide a counselor through the process.
- There are always questions as to whether it is best for counselors to spend their times in ARD meetings (particularly at the high school level) or working directly with those students. This is a district choice; however, TxSP has updated the ARD report that can be used to provide the information needed in an ARD without the counselor always needing to attend every meeting. Check out the documentation and protocol to see if it would work for your district. We have also posted the ASCA Position Statement on counselors working with students with disabilities.
- As our developers were writing protocols and documents for the administrative interns, it was decided to update our counseling internship section. We think you will like that we combined several documents into one.
Is there a protocol and document you need that is not listed on our website?
Don't forget, one of our services as part of your annual subscription for your district is your ability to submit requests. We will do the research and build the protocol and necessary documents. Several updated postings this month included requests from three districts. Go to the home page and click on Home and the Document Request form. Texas School Procedure is here to help your district stay in compliance and apply best practices. Don't forget to include our subscription in your 2019-20 school budget as we will have the legislative updates included.
