Hello SMS Families!

Welcome to our first full week of school! Our students did a wonderful job last week learning their classes, meeting their teachers and adjusting to the new school year. We are hoping for the same this week.

Thank you to all of our parents who came to our Meet and Greet around the Track. What a wonderful evening seeing all of our students and parents. It was a beautiful night and our staff really enjoyed seeing and meeting all of you.

Just a reminder to bus riders: please make sure every student has a mask on in the morning and on their way home and carries an extra as well. Students cannot get on the bus if they do not have a mask.

Finally, help support school spirit and get your student ready for our Mustang Spirit Day this Friday. Students dress their best green and white and win spirit prizes. Bring your Mustang PRIDE on Friday!

Announcements & Reminders

Behavior Notifications

Students at SMS will be held accountable to minor behaviors through a system called Behavior Notifications. Staff will give a Behavior Notification to students when they see your student violating a minor student code of conduct. Staff will contact parents via email identifying the minor behavior. Students who progress in this system and reach 5, 7, 9th behavior notification or more, will be referred to the office for formal discipline. At this time, an administrator will contact home and assign discipline.

This system was created to help support students in learning expected behavior and create a consistent system for progressive discipline. It is our hope, through a supportive system of feedback and consistency, that we prevent students from getting to a level of discipline and they can learn from their behavior.

Major behaviors that violate our Student Code of Conduct will be handled immediately by administration and parents will be notified.

SMS PTA

Please join the SMS PTA. This year we will be accepting memberships through our online store only. The link is https://strongsvillems.memberhub.com/store.

Our meetings will be held the first Tuesday of every month at 9:30am at the middle school.

Breakfast/Lunches

All students will be given the option to partake in free lunch at SMS this year. Students will be able to go through the lunch line and obtain the school provided lunch, at no charge. Please note that all extras, such as ice cream, water bottle, snacks, chips, etc... will be available at a cost.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Please be sure to drop off and vacate the parking lot as soon as you can as we utilize morning spaces for staff parking as well. Thank you for making our parking situation manageable.

MASKS

Please make sure that all students have a mask to ride the bus to and from school. It is not a guarantee that a mask would be available to your student in the event they do not bring one on the bus. Please be sure your student packs a mask or two daily.

Chromebook Cases

If your student is new to the District at SMS, and received a Chromebook and needs a Chromebook case, please click HERE to sign your student up to receive one. If you were previously in our District prior to this year, all students need to use their case that was originally given. If you do not have this available, you can purchase one at school.

Stay Safe, Speak Up student hotline

Strongsville's Stay Safe, Speak Up student hotline is located on the district website. It is located on the main page on the top green bar. Students who believe they have been harassed, bullied, victimized by fellow students, or have other concerns which may jeopardize the safety of students, employees, or school facilities, are asked to Speak Up! and promptly report the issue using our District’s student/parent hotline – accessible both online and by telephone.

Here Comes the Bus App

Parents can stay updated on their child’s bus location to and from school through the Here Comes the Bus app. You can CLICK HERE for the directions on how to download the app (or access via the website) and register to see your child’s bus. Please follow the linked directions and enter the listed school code for our district.

Note. To make the app function, our student information system communicates with our routing software and then our routing software communicates with the app. We are aware that the app is not working for some students and will say you are unable to add your student in the app as the student last name and ID do not match our records. Please know that we are working with the applicable providers to identify and correct this issue.
