KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Kia ora whānau, welcome to the end of week 6 - another fantastic week here at Vogeltown! This week was shortened by the Teacher Only Day on Monday, a massive thanks to everyone for your support of this day. The Vogeltown staff were lucky enough to be involved in some amazing professional development around our local New Plymouth environment - St Mary's Church, Te Whare Hononga and Pukākā (Marsland hill). It was great to be able to discuss, analyse and reflect on the use of these places over the years. We will be building this PD in to our Vogeltown hikoi at the beginning of next year.
Week 6 means we only have 4 weeks left in the term. It is going to be a busy 4 weeks, as it is every year, so please check the calendar for dates and lock them into your diaries. There are going to be some syndicate 'fun weeks' in week 9 and 10 involving water, teddy bears and bikes - so, please keep an eye out for these notices (we will put them on Facebook and Skool Loop too).
We have just begun training up our Year 5 road patrollers for 2024. A big thanks to everyone for your patience as these learners develop the skills of being an efficient road patroller. There is a big training day for the Year 5 road patrollers on the 30th of November with our Community Constable. A big thanks to our parents who help out with road patrol every day - we really appreciate your support.
Our kaiako (teachers) are busy finishing end of year reports and getting the last pieces of data entered for the year. These 'summative' reports will be shared with all whānau on Monday 11th December. You will also have on these reports your child's class for 2024. We spend a lot of time sorting classes for each year and we make sure we get the connection of teacher, student and classmates correct. On Wednesday 13th December, all our learners get to meet their new teacher for 2024 for 30/40 minutes.
Property update: You will have noticed a lot scaffolding around the senior school over the last couple of weeks. We are finishing up the re-roof of the office block, the back of the office block and the toilet block beside the library. These should all be finished by the end of next week.
Then we begin the re-roof of the junior school (Rooms 2, 3, 4, 5 and office area). This is a massive piece of work and will hopefully be completed over the Christmas break.
UPCOMING NEXT WEEK:
We have our Talent Quest Final - a big congratulations to all the kids who made the final! Also, well done to all the kids who got up and performed in the heats - we have some very talented Vogeltowners here!
The final begins at 1.50pm Monday. Rumour has it there might be a teacher dance again this year....watch this space!
The Vogeltowner Assembly is on next Friday 24th November - this is our most prestigious award at Vogeltown. A big congratulations to the Vogeltown learners who have earned them. Remember we keep it a secret till the day!
A NOTE ABOUT SCHOOL PHOTOS
Photolife will send the shoot-key to all families, we will have a copy of the code in the office, but it may pay to check your spam/junk for Photolife emails. As soon as we know they have emailed families, we will send out some comms to let you know.
Have a great weekend whānau!
Mr O and the VS Team
CONGRATULATIONS!
Well done Dayna, you are an amazing teacher and we are very lucky to have you here at Vogeltown School - I know all of the school (especially the kids in Rm 11) are extremely proud of Dayna's hard work over the last 2 weeks! We celebrated Dayna's 'graduation' at a special (and quite early) breakfast on Monday.
Ka Rawe Mrs Lewis!

HATS - PŌTAE
A reminder to our whānau that all of our Vogeltown learners must wear a bucket hat in Term 4. The sun becomes more intense over the term, so the bucket hat is the best way to protect faces and necks.
You can purchase a school hat from the senior office for $17 but any bucket hat is fine to wear.
We also have sunscreen in the classrooms.

Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period will run from 30 January 2024 to 12 April 2024.
The second enrolment period will run from 29 April 2024 to 5 July 2024.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by Wednesday 14th February 2024. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments received from students who live within the school's home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of out of zone places is Friday 23rd February 2024. Application for enrolment for an out of zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the school office and from our website). Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2024 should apply by Friday 6th October 2023 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2024 school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Monday 26th February 2024. Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Tuesday 27th February 2024.
