Hedgcoxe Library
May/Summer 2025
All Library Books Are Due on Friday, May 9th
What a year it has been in the Hedgcoxe library! We've circulated over 13,000 print resources and over 6000 digital resources for our students. It's time now to bring all of our books "home" for the summer so I can get our shelves ready for a new school year. Therefore, all student library books are due THIS Friday, May 9th. If a book cannot be located, then please contact me at karen.berry@pisd.edu for payment information. (Lost or damaged books must be paid for; we can no longer accept replacement books in lieu of payment.)
The good news is that if you pay for a book and then find it over the summer, a full refund can be arranged if the book is returned in good condition within the first two weeks of the next school year. PLEASE NOTE: If your 5th grader has books that cannot be found, their account still needs to be reconciled by the end of the school year so he/she will be able to check out books in middle school.
2024-2025 Bluebonnet and 2x2 Readers
At the beginning of this school year, Mrs. Berry made available reading logs for the Texas 2x2 Reading Program (for K-2nd students) and the Bluebonnet Reading Program (for 3rd-5th students). Dozens of students school-wide read books from both reading lists, and I'm so proud of each one of them! Below are the students who completed and turned in their reading logs by the indicated due dates:
Kinder- Liba Ahmed, Victor Drozdetski, and Natalia Russo
1st grade- Emma Aldana, Autumn Anderson, Brooklyn Belza, Mehar Bhamra, Jordan Elson, Kylie Faber, Muntasir Hasan, Navami Munjanattu, Katerina Papadopoulos, Micah Patty, Kaeden Sams, Sloane Smith, Parker Thomason, Adalyn White, Emma Wood, and Everly Wood
2nd grade- Liza Ahmed, Camille Brassette, Amir Osman, Khansa Sadaf, Peter Stout, and Juan Pablo Vega Morales
BLUEBONNET READERS:
3rd grade- Cayde Green, Mia Inokuma, Mehwish Kamal, Kayleigh Slater, Ames Song, and Aria Watson
4th grade- Jonah Myers and Gabby Russo
5th grade- Kyra Berd, Katelyn Burgos, Alex Hristov, Sehrish Kamal, and Aarna Pernankil
The Bluebonnet Readers were honored at a special breakfast with Mrs. Berry in April.
The 2x2 Readers will receive recognition and a prize from Mrs. Berry in mid-May.
The 2025-2026 2x2 and Bluebonnet reading lists are already available (see links below), and the public libraries do have those books in case your students would like to get a head start on reading titles from the lists this summer. Every student will receive reading logs for the new school year during library classes when school resumes in August.

SUMMER READING: Avoid the Summer Slide!
I wish everyone an amazing summer full of wonderful, memory-making moments. Encourage your children to READ as often as they can throughout the summer months! (If you'd like to know more about the reality of "summer slide," you can check out an informative and helpful article from Scholastic HERE.)
Our amazing Plano Public Libraries are having a birthday-themed Summer Kickoff Party on May 31st. You'll find details about that, their summer reading program, and multiple other PPL offerings HERE. Also, don't forget that your student can continue to access thousands of SORA e-books and audiobooks via their PISD Webdesks all summer long!
Library Volunteers
I would be remiss not to mention that the Hedgcoxe Library has the most amazing volunteers! Thank you so much to each and every one of the amazing parents and community members who showed up week after week, rain or shine, to help our students check out books and to shelve hundreds of books every week. YOU make all the difference!
Before we know it, it'll be time once again to have Meet the Teacher and to recruit library volunteers for the next school year. Until then, Happy Summer and Happy Reading!
