Wishing You All A Restful Winter Break!

We wanted to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to our parents as we close out the first semester of the 2019-2020 school year. Walnut High School is a special place because of all of the hard work, dedication, time, and effort our staff and parents put in behind the scenes to make our students successful. We hope you take these next 2 weeks to unwind, rest, recharge, and find renewal as we head into the second semester.

Melody Yu Accepted to MIT!

This week we found out that one of our very own Mustangs, Melody Yu, was accepted to

MIT. Melody is an IBCP student, PLTW student, National Merit Scholar, Science Olympiad President, City of Hope, Research Intern, Violinist, and an amazing young woman!

Dreamcatchers Club Giving Back to the Community!

On Wednesday, the Walnut High School Dreamcatchers Club led by Mustang teacher, Shari I visited the Brookdale Care Facility off of Colima. The clubs mission focuses on the opportunity to learn and grow through intergenerational connections. What a great experience for our Mustangs. Art Competition for the PAC 20th Anniversary!

The Performing Arts Center is turning 20! There will be a gala celebrating 20 years of performing arts at WHS on Friday, April 3 at 7:00 PM. Be sure to save the date.

To celebrate, we are holding an art competition with the theme Celebrating the Arts: Past, Present, and Future. All current students and alumni are encouraged to submit their work.

This year their photos are available for viewing & ordering online.

Send out photos for the holidays to show your relatives how your child has grown!

Orders received by December 9th will be shipped by December 16th

Just follow these simple steps:

Click on K-11 Fall Photos icon
On the upper left side of screen click search for photos
Type in the student’s school ID number (in some cases it will be permanent ID#)
The student’s image will appear click on the image and begin to create an account.
Select the package

Tardy Sweep

Our GLCs will be conducting random Tardy Sweeps starting this month to stress the importance of being on time. A tardy sweep will happen anytime during the day or before school. If a student is caught in a tardy sweep, they will be assigned a detention. Please remind students of the importance of being punctual and in class, on time, and prepared.

LobbyGuard check-in has officially started!

To continue keeping the safety of our students a top priority, Walnut Valley Unified School District imoplemented a new visitor management system beginning November 1.

“Our goal is to continue to provide a welcoming and warm environment for our parents, teachers, students, and staff while simultaneously communicating a culture of safety and security to the community,” said Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor

Visitors will continue to be required to present identification to office staff.

Accepted forms of identification include:

State issued driver’s license or identification card,
Matricular Consular card,
Military ID (active duty or retired)
Permanent resident card.

School Lunch Policy

Due to safety concerns, we DO NOT accept student lunches in the office. We understand the importance of student nutrition, but we encourage students to either purchase lunch at school or bring their lunch from home. Food, drinks, or other items are NOT to be passed to students through the fence. This is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Please Note: Parents can now access the Food Services Department from our website under the Parents tab. On that page, parents can set up and deposit funds into their student's lunch account for purchasing lunch on campus.

ADP PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT - JAN. 23

The Academic Design Program (ADP) is a standards-based, integrated approach to learning. Using the Design-Based Learning methodology, Math, Social Science, and English are brought together as the students work through real-world problems in search of real-world solutions.

Program Benefits

Meets A-G requirements (i.e., college or university prep)
Small learning community--class sizes smaller than average
ADP classes are scheduled for up to three periods a day, allowing students to participate in a full selection of electives and other activities for the remainder of the school day
Chromebooks, desktop computers, and iPads using word processing, design, photo, movie, music
One, two, and three-year program participation options
Opportunity for involvement through ADP Council and classroom leadership

The Academic Design Program emphasizes the 5 C's of Common Core:

Creativity: students design original solutions to multidimensional problems; they build 3-dimensional objects and structures
Collaboration: students work in teams, sharing ideas and drawing conclusions from the interactions; work-based learning experiences are built in to Challenges through the year
Critical Thinking: all solutions to problems must be "never before seen" and apply the concepts of core academic subjects
Communication: students have informal class discussions and reflections of the curriculum verbally and/or in writing; they present solutions live, in class or via other multi-media resources
Citizenship: students are in work groups throughout the year and have rights, privileges and responsibilities within those groups as well as across the program
