NEWSWORTHY AND NOTABLE
The next AISLE Advocate newsletter deadline is November 15, 2022. Members are encouraged to submit articles or member news items to newsletter@aisled.org. The types of articles appropriate for the newsletter range from short features, how-to’s, or practical advice to long-form features or case studies. Compelling personal stories and opinion pieces are welcome along with real-world experience, analysis or research. Submissions should offer value in the form of information, ideas, best practices, tips, advice, or resources. Please include any figures, pictures, or images needed to accompany your article. Round Table Panelists Sought
ALA Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) is seeking panelists for the LIRT Conference Program at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, IL (June 22-27, 2023)
Program Title: Universal design for learning - planning for all learners
Universal design for learning is an educational framework that optimizes teaching to accommodate all learners through multiple means of representation, expression, and action & engagement. By creating accessible, inclusive learning experiences, libraries of all types can provide more equitable library services and support for learners through intentional, proactive, and reflective practices. In this session, participants will learn how librarians from different library types are incorporating universal design for learning into their instruction, whether in-person and/or online, to help reduce barriers and encourage learning. Proposals received by Thursday, December 1st will receive first priority. CCB to host events centered on Asian American history
The iSchool is hosting a series of events in support of the TEAACH Act. https://ischool.illinois.edu/news-events/news/2022/09/ccb-host-events-centered-asian-american-history In 2022, Illinois became the first state in the nation to mandate the teaching of Asian American community history in public elementary and secondary high schools. The Teaching Equitable Asian American Community History (TEAACH) Act ensures that every K-12 student in Illinois learns about the contributions of Asian Americans to the economic, cultural, social, and political development of the (read more at ischool.illinois.edu)

The School Library Censorship Summit January 9, 2023 at Illinois State University.
This summit will be focused on coming together as a community of school libraries to address the current landscape of censorship and book banning in the state and learning methods to promote intellectual freedom.
Areas of focus will include:
- Responding to official challenges
- Addressing collection concerns with stakeholders
- Writing and editing collection development and reconsideration policies
- Self-censorship
- Educating parents on collection-related issues
At the event you can expect a keynote speaker, a panel presentation, active work time in groups, and more.

- IRC will host the 2022 Illinois Reads Book Festival at Illinois Valley Community College on Saturday, November 12, from 10:00am until 2:00pm. This event is free and open to the public.
