Tambark Creek Principal Newsletter
October 2024
Hello Parents & Guardians!
As we embrace the fall season, we have several important updates and events to share with you!
Fall Fundraiser
We are excited to kick off our fall fundraiser! Your participation helps support our school programs and activities. Stay tuned for more details on how you can contribute. This year our PTSA along with some staff members are organizing and implementing our fall fundraiser with an Olympics theme. The PTSA is no longer working with an outside company for our fall fundraiser so that we can keep 100% of the proceeds. Their goal for the fundraiser is to increase the number of fieldtrips for all grade levels.
Award Assemblies
This year we are happy to announce our monthly PBIS award assemblies. Each month a student will be recognized for receiving the monthly award for showing the 4 Be's in ALL areas of the school. Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Ready to Learn.
Panorama Survey
Students in grades 3 through 5 will be participating in the Panorama survey this month. This survey provides valuable feedback about our school environment and helps us understand how we can improve. Please encourage your child to take this survey seriously.
Picture Day – October 8th
Mark your calendars! Picture Day is on October 8th. Students should come dressed in their best for their photos. This is a free dress day. We can’t wait to capture those smiles!
No School – October 11th
Please remember that there will be no school on October 11th due to our Staff Learning Improvement Day. Enjoy this day off!
Arrival and Dismissal Safety
Your child’s safety is our top priority. Please adhere to our arrival and dismissal procedures. Do not stand in the parking lot during "rolling pick up" to wait for your child to come out. If you’re picking your student up at the front of the school, you must be in a vehicle or a kindergarten parent. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe!
PTSA Fall Carnival
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our PTSA fall carnival! It was a fantastic success, and we appreciate your support and involvement.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-Teacher conferences will be held over two days, November 4th–5th. This year we will have two full days with Monday November 4th being the late night. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your student’s progress and get to know their teacher better. Sign-up information and scheduling details will be sent out soon. There will be no school for students on Monday November 4th and Tuesday November 5th. There are no more half days for conferences as we have done in the past.
Thank you for your continued partnership in creating a safe and supportive environment for our students.
Warm regards,
Mrs. O'Connor-Weaver

BULLYING AWARENESS
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. At Tambark Creek, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will learn how to prevent and stop bullying. We will be using the Bullying Prevention curriculum from Second Step. We define bullying as when someone keeps being mean to someone else on purpose. The person it’s been happening to hasn’t been able to make it stop. It is unfair and one-sided. When students experience bullying, they may be afraid to go to school, have low self-esteem, and feel like they don’t belong. Knowing how to prevent bullying, and how to identify and stop bullying can help create a safe school and community.
Examples of bullying behavior:
- Hurting someone’s body or belongings
- Using words to hurt someone’s feelings
- Leaving someone out on purpose
- Getting others to be mean to or exclude someone
How can we stop bullying?
- Recognize: is it bullying or a conflict? Does it keep happening?
- Report: report the bullying situation to an adult.
- Refuse: when you refuse bullying, you can assertively tell the person to stop. Being assertive means to use a strong, respectful voice and respectful words.
How can we prevent bullying?
- Being respectful to everyone (one of our Tambark Rules!).
- Including others.
- Learning about each other and accepting differences.

From the art teachers
We have had an amazing start to the school year in the Art room. Students have enjoyed making sketchbooks personal to them that we will use throughout the school year. During the month of October, students in Kindergarten and 1st grade will be creating a watercolor scarecrow picture. They will practice their cutting skills as they create a scarecrow out of a template and scrapbook paper. In 2nd and 3rd grade, students will learn about Surrealism as they create a unique make believe mask using a variety of art supplies. The 4th and 5th graders will brainstorm different items unique to their culture and identity. Once they narrow down their objects, they will create a “Curio Cabinet” and participate in a gallery walk to highlight how unique they are.
