October 2024
Message from Mr. Timmins
Our goal is to prepare students with the tools to be ready for wherever their path leads. While academics is a large part of that work, we also spend time teaching and reinforcing "soft" skills - those attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with others around them. We use the Second Step Social-Emotional Learning program to provide students with direct instruction related to five core competencies:
September Social-Emotional Lessons - Bullying
October Social-Emotional Lessons - Growth Mindset and Goal Setting
In October, our lessons will shift to teaching students to have a growth mindset when taking on challenges and how to set and reach their goals. Students will learn skills related to paying attention, limiting distractions, creating a plan, and overcoming obstacles to attain goals they set for themselves. Students also learn that mistakes and missteps are a part of the process and offer us an opportunity to reflect and learn when they happen.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything.
Sincerely,
Bill Timmins

October Clubs/Activities
The following clubs and activities will be starting or continuing in October:
If staying for an after school club or activity, please make sure your child knows how they will be getting home at 4:25 PM. The options are: walk home, car pick up, or activity bus.
- Students who are walking home or taking the activity bus will exit the building out the main entrance at the front of the school. If you are meeting your child to walk home together, please meet him/her at the front door.
- Car pick up at 4:25 PM is different than car pick up at 3:40 PM. Drivers should pull up to door 6 (where morning drop off happens) and wait in the car for your child. Please do NOT park your car and walk to door 6. We really try to avoid any foot traffic in the parking lot area.
- Children taking the activity bus will need to know their street address in order to determine if they should get on Bus 1 or Bus 2. Activity bus routes and stops are different than the normal bus routes/stops. Please check out the links below for more information on stops and routes.
