Supporting the PTA directly benefits students, teachers, and the school community. PTA funds enhance student experiences by providing resources for extracurricular programs, classroom supplies, field trips, and technology. They also support teachers by supplying tools to create a better learning environment. PTA involvement fosters community connections through events and fundraisers while helping improve school facilities and promoting parental engagement. Schools with strong PTA support often see better student outcomes, as they cultivate a positive and resourceful environment. By contributing to the PTA, you’re investing in the success and well-being of students and the school.
Hello Dolly!
On November 21-23, Brookings High School Theater Department presented showings of Hello Dolly! If you didn't get the opportunity to see this, you certainly missed out.
95 students were in the following roles:

ESports
Brookings High School has launched its first-ever ESports team, joining South Dakota’s inaugural season of sanctioned high school ESports competition. With 21 students participating, the team will compete in five games: Chess, Minecraft Bed Wars, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart, and Rocket League. Matches are held remotely against schools of varying sizes across the state, culminating in a state tournament in Aberdeen. The program has strong support from school administrators, who provided a dedicated space in the CTE building, complete with computer desks and Nintendo Switches for practice and competition. ESports transforms gaming from a solitary activity into a collaborative, social endeavor that promotes teamwork, leadership, and community. Students have responded enthusiastically, taking ownership of the program’s development and future growth. As the regular season kicks off on Dec. 2, the team is already hard at work building skills and camaraderie.

Student Attendance
Regular school attendance is vital for academic success and personal growth. Studies show that students who miss just two days of school per month, or roughly 18 days per year, are considered chronically absent, significantly impacting their ability to keep up with coursework. According to Attendance Works, chronic absenteeism is associated with lower test scores, reduced graduation rates, and limited future opportunities. For instance, students who are frequently absent in ninth grade are 25% less likely to graduate on time. Beyond academics, consistent attendance fosters essential life skills such as responsibility, time management, and perseverance. By prioritizing attendance, students not only maximize their educational potential but also build a strong foundation for lifelong success.
At Brookings High School, we encourage students to embody Bobcat P.R.I.D.E. by showing Determination and Participation in their commitment to regular attendance. We understand that sometimes illnesses or unavoidable circumstances arise, and when they do, it’s important to communicate with our office to ensure we stay informed and can support your child’s needs.
Let’s continue to work together to make school attendance a priority, setting our students up for success now and in the future. Thank you for all you do to support your student’s learning and our Bobcat community!
Cell Phone expectations at BHS
Cell Phone expectations
As we reach the midpoint of the school year, I want to take a moment to remind our school community about our expectations regarding cell phone use during instructional time. While most of our students are doing an excellent job adhering to these guidelines, we have noticed that some are choosing to use their phones instead of focusing on their academic tasks. To our students, I ask that you continue to respect our expectations and prioritize your learning by keeping phones put away during class. To parents and guardians, we kindly request your support in reinforcing this expectation, as it plays a vital role in maintaining a focused and productive learning environment. Together, we can ensure that instructional time remains a space for growth and achievement. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to the success of our students
Bobcat Time
As part of our commitment to supporting every student’s success, we’d like to strongly encourage all students to make regular use of Bobcat Time each week.
This dedicated time provides students with valuable opportunities to receive additional support, review challenging topics, ask questions, and reinforce their understanding. By making consistent use of this resource, students can deepen their learning, stay on top of their work, and build confidence in their academic journey. Even a small, regular investment in extra help time can make a significant difference. Please encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their learning and build strong study habits.
Thank you for your support in helping us create a community of lifelong learners!
