Patrick Henry Staff Professional Development

Last week, our students had their first half day of virtual learning of the school year so that our staff could participate in professional development in the afternoon. If you've ever wondered what exactly professional development is, here's a little insight: it's a time for our staff to come together, reconnect, rejuvenate, and learn! We used our time together to reflect on the positive successes of the past few weeks, and to reflect on what needed to change for our upcoming lessons. Our staff got to encourage one another and spend some much needed time collaborating with each other to prepare for the second half of first quarter. As you can see, we also took a moment out of our afternoon together to giggle (see the picture below). We thank all of our families for their patience with our half day so that we could reconnect as a staff. Hopefully the second half of this quarter is even stronger than the first half! Keep reading below for some amazing things that happened this week!

Highlights from around the community

This week, we had staff in the building, we saw students in person during some neighborhood home visits, and we spent time in our virtual classrooms. The results were fun fun fun. It was great to see everyone (both virtual and in person!) and we cannot wait to see even more fun next week.

Six Feet Apart!

Ms. Bryant and Ms. Evans demonstrated a strong social distancing technique with their high kicks. It was extremely effective!

Hank

Dr. Rogers' dog, Hank, made a special appearance on camera this week. Students were very impressed by his size. He weighs more than most of our students!

Kamaja

Kamaja stopped by for tech support this week and got to show off his new snapping skill that he has perfected over the summer months. It was so fun seeing Kamaja and his brother Keith in person!

Lynette's Desk

During a home visit, we got to see Lynette's home office setup. It was fun to see all of her fun desk accessories!

Home Visits!

Not only did we get to see our students in person, but we also got to meet their pets! Can you believe that this dog's name is Sugar?

Nina's Office

When we visited Nina, it felt like we were walking into her professional office - it was organized with her schedule, accessories, and class materials, and it was really fun in there!

Goddess' Home Office

Goddess keeps this awesome squishy banana on her desk to help her stay calm and focused when she needs to give a frustration squeeze every now and then. Great idea!

Desmand

Desmand got to Star test with Ms. Von Behren this week before heading off to the Learning Center. It was fun to see him in person!

Congrats to SLPS Counselor, Amaris Triplett!

Ms. Triplett, School Counselor at Mann Elementary in St. Louis Public Schools, recently published a beautiful children's book called "I Love Being Brown." This incredible book includes affirmations for brown skinned girls and boys to feel confident, loved, happy, and beautiful. We are really proud of Ms. Triplett for publishing such a positive story of love and acceptance. Deshon Luckett

Deshon received a shoutout from a teacher this week for always doing the right thing! His shoutout said, "He is always on time and participates in every lesson. He's a math star with multiplication flash cards, and he always raises his hand with questions." Great job, Deshon!

Tyme received a shoutout this week for always sitting up and staying focused on the lesson. She is always paying attention and doing great things in class. And excuse the pun, but she's always on TIME!

Jamar received a shoutout this week for always trying his best AND for putting in extra time outside of the normal school day. He stays during lunch and after school to make sure his questions get answered, and he is always willing to work hard to make sure he understands everything.
