Principal's Corner
Ponderings of the Principal
What a beautiful May Crowning mass we had yesterday! This is one of my favorite masses of the year. It was so good to see several of you join us too. Two of our eighth grade students, Damien Brelage and Jeff Gerstbauer, were chosen to crown Mary and each classroom processed in with one or two vases of flowers. Mother Mary had to be smiling down on us all. If you have a Blessed Mother statue at home, you can crown her as well or place flowers around her. As we move through the month of May, may we each find a way to honor Mary.
First Communion Weekend for Second Grade
This weekend our second grade students will make their First Holy Communion! We ask that you please keep them in your prayers as they celebrate with great joy the sacrament of Holy Communion. May God's blessing be upon you as you receive Jesus this weekend Harlan and Harper Armstrong, Scarlett Beiser, Brooklin and Steven Brelage, Stella Brown, Maggie Candelot, Adrian Harmeyer, Rowan Farmer, Rachel Harshbarger, Clayton Lamping, Henry Flaspohler, Kennedy Macias, Ava Hardebeck, Blake Meyer, Bo Hountz, Rory Meyer, Augie Huffmeyer, Sam Nobbe, Brooks Padgett, Bradlee Stirn, Jack Serafin, Liliann Volk, Zoah Yeager, and Elijah Youngman.
Congratulations
A big congratulations to two of our eighth grade students who broke school records in track this week. Jeff Gerstbauer set a new school record in the shot put with a throw of 42'8.5". This beat the previous record by 7.5". Mary Kara Wanstrath broke the school long jump record by 2" with her jump of 14'6". Way to go Jeff and Mary Kara!
Calendar differences between Batesville and St. Louis in 2024-25
Next year there will be five days in our school in which we are in session and Batesville is not. They have reduced the student days to 175 instead of 180 next year and added in 5 additional PD days. While I strongly feel holding to the 180 days of instruction is important I also want you to be aware that we will not have bus transportation on those days. On our end, we realize we may need to prepare for a larger group of students in Before School Care and After School Care. On the parent end, please know that the buses will not run on September 3, September 23, November 1, February 14, or April 11. These dates will be posted again at the beginning of the year, but I wanted to get them on your calendar.
School Lunch Hero Day
A big thank you to our lunch time heroes, Mrs. Prickel and Ms. Wintz, as we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day tomorrow! Thanks for all you do to plan, prepare, serve and even clean up. You are rock stars!
Teacher / Staff Appreciation Week
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and this is a great time to let them know how much they are loved and appreciated. I invite students/families to write a note, make a card, bring in a flower or treat, or if you so desire a gift card to show your appreciation. Be creative, but let's let them feel the love for all they do.
Strings Concert
May 13 will be the strings concert for grades 5-8. The evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Activity Center. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. We look forward to another outstanding performance as we complete year two of our strings program.
Try - It Night
Each year our fifth grade students are invited to a Try-it night to choose a stringed instrument they will learn to play in music during their middle school years. This is the music program offered at St. Louis and all JH students are required to participate. Shawna Rood from Antonio Violins along with our music teachers will be here that night for students to try the viola, violin, cello or base to choose from. We will hold this meeting before school is out so that instruments can be delivered at the beginning of the school year.
May Free Dress
