Meet Ms. Tracy!
Tracy Rear is our new secretary! Ms. Tasha moved to the district office, and though she'll miss us, she's found a great opportunity! Tracy has been in schools in many capacities, including a teacher. She is ready to support students, families, and staff at Adams and we are lucky to have her!
OBOB Regionals Representatives!
Our champion has been crowned here at Adams after a fierce and competitive season! Congratulations to the OWLSTERS and great job OBOB Oreos for an amazing season!
Bullying and Harassment Re-Teach
Dear families, during the first part of the second semester, our school is experiencing more instances of harassment than we typically see or hear here at Adams. In the first semester, just over 1% of our discipline incidents involved harassment-related discipline, but that number has grown to over 4% since January. Incidents include using language or name-calling that is putting down another student based on gender, race, or body size. This is not acceptable. Our Culture and Climate Team, alongside our Equity and Inclusion Team, is planning lessons and re-teaches around these important topics in classrooms. Ms. Oliver, Ms. Ayhana, and Ms. Bree are also visiting classrooms to share the importance and seriousness of this behavior over the next week. Teachers are also practicing and sharing ways to interrupt, teach, and report racism, homophobia, and sexual harassment, even if the behavior seems based on students not understanding their impact. An ask for families - please support these efforts in teaching and sharing with your students that hateful language, gestures, and actions are never acceptable. Here are a few resources we use at school that you may access at home to support this work.
1. Learning for Justice: Learning for Justice provides free resources to educators emphasizing social justice and anti-bias. They offer classroom resources, lesson plans, and professional development tools to promote respect and inclusivity.
2. Common Sense Education: Common Sense Education provides digital citizenship resources for educators, including lesson plans on online etiquette and respectful communication. These resources can help students understand the impact of their words, both online and offline.
3. Anti-Defamation League (ADL) - No Place for Hate: The ADL offers resources for educators to create inclusive and respectful school environments. Their materials include lesson plans, activities, and strategies to address bias, discrimination, and hate speech.
4. Rethink Words: Rethink Words is a program designed to help students understand the impact of their language. It provides interactive activities and videos to promote respectful communication and empathy.
Thank you for your partnership as we continue to cultivate a safe and welcoming environment for every student at Adams!
