PQ Tuesday Newsday
December 10, 2024
Principal Message
As the holiday break approaches, the excitement in the air is undeniable—our students are eagerly counting down the days until they can enjoy well-deserved time with family and friends. While the anticipation is building, our focus remains steady on meaningful learning. Classrooms are buzzing with engaged discussions, hands-on activities, and the joy of discovery as we continue to make the most of every instructional moment. This time of year reminds us of the importance of balancing hard work and celebration, and we are proud of our students for their commitment to growth even as they look forward to the festivities ahead.
Upcoming events: Next Tuesday at 6 pm, our 4th graders & 5th grade band members will host their holiday concert. The students have worked hard, put in the practice time, and are almost ready for the big night. Please be sure to come out and support their work. Also, next week on Thursday night (12/12 @ 7pm) we will host Chad Brice the Director of Training at Cognitive & Behavior Consultants (CBC), for a basic overview on DBT concepts for parents. This event will take place at the MSHS, so be sure to join us.
Lastly, next week will be Holiday Spirt Week, so please see below for the full details.
Be well,
Roy Martin & Dawn Snowdon

Parent Workshop with Chad Brice
PARENT WORKSHOP: December 12th @ 7PM in the MSHS Library. Join Chad Brice, PhD, Director of Training at Cognitive & Behavior Consultants (CBC), for a basic overview on DBT concepts for PARENTS. Dr. Brice is a consultant who works with our clinical teams district-wide and will provide parents with strategies for providing validation to reduce conflict at home; how to use distress tolerance (getting through tough situations without making them worse); and how to reduce vulnerabilities to experience positive outcomes (e.g. pleasant events, better sleep, etc..).
This will be the second session of a four session series for parents that will lead into a deeper discussion around reducing vulnerabilities by increasing structure and building better habits at home. The content is relevant and applicable to both those who attended any of Dr. Brice's previous sessions and those who are planning to attend for the first time. All are welcome!

Latest Health Update in Pediatrics:
Bacterial pneumonia cases are on the rise in young children, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Pneumonia, a common lung infection, can be caused by multiple sources, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. However, the CDC says cases caused by the bacteria Mycoplasma pneumoniae have been increasing in the last six months "since late spring and have remained high" and has been impacting children in particular.
What are general pneumonia symptoms in kids?
Other types of pneumonia may have similar to slightly different symptoms from pneumonia cases caused by M. pneumoniae. They include:
- Chest pain when breathing or coughing
- Altered mental status (confusion)
- Cough
- Fatigue (feeling tired)
- Fever or chills
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Shortness of breath
- Macrolides are the first-line treatment for this infection. Some first-line antibiotics used to treat pneumonia, like penicillin, will not treat M. pneumoniae.
If an illness is persisting please seek medical attention to diagnose and treat.
Thank you,
The Health Office
