The Barnard Broadcaster

Dear Barnard Families,
What a busy and successful week. Thank you to the many volunteers that helped out this week across all of our events. From senior clap out, to field day, to the Kona Ice truck, to 5th grade graduation, we were nonstop fun this week in full celebration mode. It was definitely a week to remember to commemorate a fabulous year! One more week to go, 1 full day and 3 half days, let's keep working together to make it great!

As I reflect on the past school year, I am filled with gratitude and joy for the incredible journey we have experienced together. It has been an absolute honor to serve as your principal this past school year, filling me with hope of the years to come and endless memories we will continue to form.
From the very start, our year kicked off with positive energy and enthusiasm with our traditional Fun Run, setting us up for what would be a year filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments. I can picture that day like it was yesterday as you all ran your hearts out and parents gathered to cheer you on. Soon after, we joined together for Donuts with Grownups, reinforcing the deep sense of community and inclusivity that thrives within our school.
As the winter began to set it, we embraced the warmth of togetherness during our Winter Extravaganza, where caroling and a reindeer visit brought smiles to every face despite the harsh weather outside. Having a reindeer inside of our school is surely a memory I will never forget!
In February, we danced the night away at our first Barnard Family Dance, as we showed our dancing moves to the Macarena and our flexibility in a Limbo competition. Kicking it up on the dance floor in our stylish sneakers was a memory that will not soon be forgotten. And who could forget the magic of our Big Top Fair in March? Laughter echoed through the halls as kids came together to play games, win prizes, and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
A new tradition this year that was a personal highlight of mine was the introduction of our birthday book program, ensuring that every Barnard student received a book from our vending machine to celebrate their special day. Snapshots and smiles made this easily one of the best times of the day!
Continuing our commitment to character education shone brightly through our Blue jay in the Spotlight assemblies and was enriched by the introduction of our Blue jay Runway tickets, where countless students each week received their wings to fly in recognition of their hard work, positive spirit, and effort that were noticed daily.
To our fifth graders, as you prepare to spread your wings and embark on the next chapter of your educational journey, know that you carry with you the spirit of Barnard Elementary. You have shown tremendous growth, resilience, and leadership, and we have no doubt that you will continue to shine bright in all your future endeavors.
As we look ahead to the summer months, may they be filled with adventures, relaxation, and moments of joy with friends. And as we eagerly anticipate the start of a new school year in the fall, let us carry forward the friendships we've formed, the lessons we've learned, and the dreams we've yet to realize.
Thank you, Barnard Elementary students, for making this year one to remember. Together, we have proven that with love, acceptance, and dedication, great things happen.
With much love and admiration,
Mrs. Bush

📝 Meet Principal Gjelaj 📝
Joseph was this years auction winner for Principal for the Day. He had a busy day right from the start to help with 5th grade graduation, followed by a busy day of meetings and events. Before the day was over, he announced a new rule for the remainder of the school year... No More Homework! 😀
🎓 5th Grade Graduation 🎓
Friday we honored our 5th graders with a special graduation ceremony followed by a full day of unforgettable fun. A huge thank you to the 5th grade teachers for planning such a special ceremony and then our 5th grade parent committee that worked all year on fundraising and planning this spectacular day for the students. One student said to me at the end of the day, "Mrs. Bush, can you build a time machine so we can keep coming back to this day over and over? It was the best day of my life!" We are so proud of our 5th graders for all their accomplishments and wish them well on their next steps and journey in Middle School. We know that bright things are in their future.

😎 Summer Literacy - Keep on Reading 📚
This summer, don't let screen time replace your child's precious time to continue to grow their reading and writing life. Help prevent "Summer Slide" the learning loss that students can experience when out of school for the summer, by partnering with us to keep them motivated all summer long. The most important part- KEEP IT FUN! 😀 Take time to check out all the resources below to learn what you can do as a parent to keep your child engaged in meaningful literacy all summer long. There are a lot of resources, we know, but trust us, it is worth the time to read and explore it all.
