School Quality Survey
Dear Parents and Guardians of Students in Grades K-12,
Your feedback about our public schools is important to us. This year, we respectfully request that you take a few moments to complete the School Quality Survey (SQS). The survey measures your perceptions of your child's safety and well-being at school, as well as your satisfaction with the school and your level of involvement. Your responses are confidential and will help schools in their continuous improvement efforts.
You may complete one survey per child. The SQS can be accessed online by scanning the QR code or by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2025SQSParent . If needed, your school can provide a computer with internet access to complete the survey on-site. If you do not have internet access, you may request a paper survey for each child by February 21, 2025, by calling (808)307-3650 or toll-free at (855)276-5801.
This letter and survey questions have been translated into 15 languages, including Cebuano, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Chuukese, Hawaiian, Ilokano, Japanese, Korean, Marshallese, Samoan, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Tongan, and Vietnamese. Translations are available at http://arch.k12.hi.us/reports/sqs
- Select "2024-2025" under "School year."
- Select "Translations" under "Filter by."

WIDA ACCESS Testing
Dear EL Parent or Guardian:
English Learners (ELs) in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade will be taking the ACCESS for ELLs English language proficiency test. This test is for students whose first or home language is not English and is to measure your child’s ability to use the English language. The test specifically identifies how well your child is reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. The four sub-parts of the test take approximately three (3) hours during the regular school day (by grade level).
The testing dates are: January 13, 2025 - February 28, 2025.
The ACCESS for ELLs test is very important, and teachers and students have been working hard to achieve the best results. This test will help teachers identify areas where support may be needed. The test also allows schools to monitor individual EL student progress on an annual basis, a requirement of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Federal guidelines require testing of all students who are ELs (e.g., ELs with disabilities, and ELs with Parent Refusal of services).
The test will need to be administered at a secure testing site such as your child’s school, computer lab, library, or classroom. Students who are participating in distance learning are also required to be assessed in-person. In such cases, school-level staff will be communicating with you to schedule the testing.
Your assistance is needed to prepare your child to take this test. Help your child get plenty of rest each night. Make sure your child eats a good breakfast, and gets to school on time. This kind of assistance will help our students to do their best. If you have any questions, please contact Bailey Ledesma at baileyledesma@waikikischool.org or Shelly Hecker at shellyhecker@waikikischool.org
.
Sincerely,

Geographic Exception Requests Now Being Accepted
Under Hawaii laws, all persons attending public school are required to attend the school in the geographic area in which they reside. However, permission to attend another school may be granted by the Department.
For families looking for an exception, fill out the GE Application form, MV1 form, and submit to the home school (for new students) along with a self-addressed stamped envelope and a current proof of residency. (The home school serves the geographic area of the child's residence.) If your family has moved and are no longer in the school boundaries, you will have to fill out a GE application. GE applications for the next school year shall be submitted between January 1 and March 1 to facilitate a decision before the end of the school year.
Printed forms are also available in the school office.
