Fighting Entropy: Why Designing Success for Our Students Matters
If we do not take the time to design our work to help students succeed, the inevitable result will not be success--regardless of how hard we may work to make it happen.
James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, explained it this way:
“It is the natural tendency of things to lose order. Left to its own devices, life will always become less structured. Sand castles get washed away. Weeds overtake gardens. Ancient ruins crumble. Cars begin to rust. People gradually age. With enough time, even mountains erode, and their precise edges become rounded. The inevitable trend is that things become less organized. . . . The pull of entropy is relentless. Everything decays. Disorder always increases.
[But], before you get depressed, there is good news. You can fight back against the pull of entropy. You can solve a scattered puzzle. You can pull the weeds out of your garden. You can clean a messy room. You can organize individuals into a cohesive team. But because the universe naturally slides toward disorder, you must expend energy to create stability, structure, and simplicity. Successful relationships require care and attention. Successful houses require cleaning and maintenance. Successful teams require communication and collaboration. Without effort, things will decay."
This is why the collaboration time for our teachers on Mondays matters so much. It provides them with the time to work together to focus their time and energy on designing success for each of their students. Thank you for your support of our schedule that makes this possible for our teachers.

Great Things Happening in D93
Celebrating 10 Years of D93 News
D93 News began with nothing more than a few empty paper ream boxes that formed a makeshift tripod to hold a second-hand iPhone 6 as our first camera. On January 5, 2015, we set out with a simple goal: to tell the stories of our schools and celebrate the amazing people within them.
Ten years and over 300 episodes later, our humble beginning serves as a reminder of how far we’ve come. While so much has changed, one thing has remained constant—our unwavering commitment to shining a light on the incredible things happening in our schools and community.
To everyone who has supported us along the way, thank you. Your encouragement means the world to us. Here’s to many more stories to tell. Stay tuned—our next episode is coming next week!

The D93 Extra Mile Award celebrates those whose hard work and positive attitudes make a significant impact on our students, staff, and community. Thanks to our amazing friends at Rusty Taco, we’ll be recognizing those who go above and beyond with this special award! 🌮🙌

Opportunities for Students
For 5th Graders: National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest
May 25th is National Missing Children's Day, every year the U.S. Department of Justice puts on a poster contest for this important date. This is a nationwide contest designed to promote awareness among teachers, parents/guardians and children and engage them in discussions about safety. Did you know that Idaho currently has 67 listed missing children?
This contest is open for all 5th graders statewide! We are asking 5th graders to design and make a 8.5" x 14" poster with the slogan and idea of "Bringing Our Missing Children Home."
All Submissions must be submitted to my office by Feb 22nd 2025. On that date we will chose a winning poster and send that student's poster on to the National level. The State's winning Student will receive an award certificate from the U.S. Department of Justice. If the State's winner is chosen as the National winner then that student, their teacher, and their parents/guardian will be invited to Washington DC (travel and lodging provided) to participate in the 42nd annual Missing Children's Day event on May 21st 2025!
